Alan Tittensor, who realised that there was the potential to form leading junior football club at Norton Cricket Club, formed Norton United Football Club in 1989.
The team entered the Staffordshire Senior League. After a couple of years, during which the foundations were laid, the club started to gain success, and won the first of its trophies with a 2–1 win over Redgate Clayton in the League Cup. Further success followed and the Staffordshire Senior League and Cup double was won in 1997. The League success was emulated in 1999 along with a victory in the prestigious Staffordshire FA Senior Vase Final. The League and Cup double was repeated in 2001 and this was followed by promotion to The North West Counties Football League. 2004–5 saw a top 5 finish and 2005–6 the club came 8th. At the end of that season a deliberate and decisive move saw the club decide not to pay players. This decision resulted in a change in the management of the team and almost a total change in the playing staff.
In 2004–05 they added to their list of honours by winning the Staffordshire FA Senior Vase for the second time. Lee Pugh was the star of this competition, scoring in every round.
During the last five years considerable change has taken place. The surrounds of the pitch have been upgraded considerably, floodlights have been erected and the whole playing surface has been relayed at the cost of £35,000.
Norton now run a Reserve team (led by Steve Booth and Colin Donaldson) and third team (led by Dominic Ryder and Kyle Adams) in the Staffordshire County Senior League. In 2003, the second team were winners of The Midland League Cup, beating Hanley Town in the final by 2–0.
Norton have junior teams at Under 18, 15, 14, 12, 11 and 10’s.
