The Aerostar R40S Festival is a Romanian made ultralight and light-sport aircraft, designed and produced by Aerostar of Bacău. The aircraft is supplied as a complete ready-to-fly-aircraft.[1]

Design and development

The aircraft was designed to comply with the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale Advanced Ultralight rules DS10141E, amendment 002, and US light-sport aircraft rules. It features a cantilever low-wing, a two-seats-in-side-by-side configuration enclosed cockpit, fixed tricycle landing gear and a single engine in tractor configuration.[1][2]

The aircraft is made from aluminum sheet. Its 9.17 m (30.1 ft) span wing employs manually operated flaps. The standard engine is the 100 hp (75 kW) Rotax 912ULS four-stroke powerplant, driving a three-bladed Woodcomp propeller.[1][3]

Registration

Early versions registered in Romania before 2007 have an ultralight aviation registration; all the aircraft registered after 2007, when Romania joined EU and Union legislation started to be used, are registered as general aviation aircraft requiring the pilot to hold at least a Private Pilot License to operate it. This is because the empty weight of 354 kg (780 lb) cannot accommodate 2 people and enough fuel and keep the maximum take-off weight under 450 kg (992 lb).[citation needed]
