For the purposes of this category, "Italy" is defined in accordance with the [[World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions]]. That is, the geographic region is mostly defined by its political boundaries except it excludes [[Sardinia]], which is included in Southwestern Europe, and [[Sicily]] (a category of its own) and includes the flora of [[Vatican City]] and [[San Marino]].

This category includes the native flora of Italy, in Southeastern Europe. Taxa of the lowest rank are always included. Higher taxa are included only if endemic.
