Hello Occult Zone, thanks for the help. I had a lengthy description typed in the Definition portion and now it is gone. Can you help get it back?

Revision as of 15:11, 6 June 2014

A kitten for you!

This wiki-kitten is there to say "thank you" for your wiki-gnoming work. I have seen your copyedits on many an article that I am reviewing weekly for WikiProject Poland new article alerts - thank you for dealing with so many recent changes! Also, because it is my sincere belief that positive reinforcement is a key to running collective intelligence projects like our 'pedia. Cheers!

Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:45, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Piotrus: Thanks for that. I will be patrolling those wikiprojects someday. Right now the football, albums, biography requires urgent attention. OccultZone (Talk) 10:50, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any area on Wikipedia that does not require urgent attention? :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:07, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
None! You've been around since 2004. Ever got bored? OccultZone (Talk) 11:10, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Piotrus: You may want to fix your typo. It is "if youu", should be "if you".[1] OccultZone (Talk) 17:23, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, I guess I must have been a bit stressed to get this typo in. But, that sock is not permbanned, I'd rather avoid that page least I draw attention of the troll(s). For the last few years I have been quite happily mostly troll-free and I'd like to continue my wiki-life in such a fashion :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:37, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Piotrus: I don't know whether it was a sock puppet or not, just WP:NOTHERE. OccultZone (Talk) 09:03, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. Through I have to admit I am positively surprised people realized that. Few years ago such NOTHERE accounts were numerous and hardly ever blocked. I'd like to think that something changed over the last few years, making our current wiki-world a much safer place. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:24, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Piotrus: Can't see anyone who will hurt or torture. I can affirm that. When I go through the archives of 2005-2007, I would still find some horrible posts. Don't why they weren't deleted. OccultZone (Talk) 09:30, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of pages

Resolved

I think some pages should just be blanked as courtesy as they await total deletion by Wikipedia administrators. I have seen the blanked as courtesy being used by various editors. A case in point if the page Murali Sekar-Learn ABAP. It is a copyvio and it is an advertisement at the same time. What do you think about it? Aha... (talk) 08:45, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Kwisha: I've notified JamesBWatson about this issue. Other admin will get online, but later. OccultZone (Talk) 09:04, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled

Your new articles will now be autopatrolled. Please see WP:AUTOPAT for any additional information you may require, or let me know. Thanks, and happy article creating. Go Phightins! 23:32, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Go Phightins!: Thanks, and finally. I had just created my 70th article. It looks like there is need of many more ambassador related articles. I hope you are having great time with your adminship, an accomplishment that you have recently achieved. OccultZone (Talk) 23:40, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

You have been assessing list articles as "start" class. We have a separate list-class assessment for articles like 2014 OFC U-20 Championship squads. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 04:38, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Viriditas: List? Well, most of these types of articles have been considered as "stub" or "Start" if you go by the wikiproject. Usually, the articles like these 2014 Taça da Liga Final, 2014_Santos FC season, are pretty more than a list. OccultZone (Talk) 04:39, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
All of the articles in that specific category are assessed as list-class. Are you saying they are not lists? You don't need to ping me, thanks. Viriditas (talk) 04:42, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I had agreed with you. I just said that "list" assessment wasn't as frequent because most of them aren't. For eg. I assessed all "1800 in ...." articles as list. Thanks for the suggestion. OccultZone (Talk) 05:34, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lansing B. Mizner

I see that you just created a new article on Lansing B. Mizner.[2] Unfortunately, much of it doesn't make any sense in English. For example, you write:

  • Born on December 5, 1825, in Monroe County, Illinois.
  • From 1868-1870, he worked as Senate of California State.
  • Under the administration of Harrison, Mizner was appointed as highest ranking diplomat...

If English isn't your first language, I'm going to recommend that you use the AfC process. Since you've recently been given the autopatroller right, these problems aren't being caught like they should be, so this presents a serious problem. Viriditas (talk) 04:52, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Millions of results, those sentences are frequent. E.g. just type "Born on December 5, 1990", and check.
So which English you are referring to? American? British? Aussie?
It happens that some people like to write "Born in 5th December", but that is not common or appropriate, not saying that it becomes senseless but it is not best either.
I would like to say that you should kindly propose your sentence, or edit the article the way you want it to be. I usually accept all criticism. But I am more interested in knowing the reason. OccultZone (Talk) 05:50, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ahem. "Born on December 5, 1825, in Monroe County, Illinois" is not a "sentence". And just what is a "Senate of California State"? Please explain that. And the phrase "appointed as highest ranking diplomat" in the context of the sentence you wrote is typical broken English. This is not acceptable for someone who was just given autopatroller status. Viriditas (talk) 10:58, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You could change it to 'appointed as the highest ranking diplomat'. Easy. I have done that. Autopatrolled is not given to those people who takes multiple attempt to create article. I remember when Callanecc had told me that some my pages(about 6) required page moves, and I should avoid it from next time, then I will definitely have autopatrolled. I followed what he told. OccultZone (Talk) 11:38, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You should not have autopatrolled and it was given to you by mistake. Furthermore, all new articles that you create should be created in your user space only until the time comes that you can have someone help you fix them. Your articles are not ready for mainspace. Viriditas (talk) 12:03, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Viriditas. I gave OccultZone autopatrolled yesterday, and it was not by mistake. I looked at about 10 of his new articles, and saw nothing wrong with them ... of course, as he has created 70 or 80, I could have looked at what happened to be the 10 best, but in those at which I looked, I saw little that was similar to what you are mentioning. Go Phightins! 19:06, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, but I maintain it was a mistake. :) Other editors have also discussed issues with his page creations. Maile66 has just raised serious objections with his article Incidents of necrophilia over here. I'm afraid that this person should not have autopatrolled rights at the moment. Viriditas (talk) 01:05, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any 'serious objections', It is assuming that there are no editors who have objected the content, if they had, they would be crashing the page first. But it is not going to happen, as long as everything is sourced to a reliable source without any violation of any policies. OccultZone (Talk) 01:26, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nominations

Please be more careful when nominating articles for speedy deletion.

I thought I had discussed this with you before, but can't immediately find it in the history of your talk page. Have you considered archiving your talk page instead of simply removing posts? What you are doing is not against policy, but it is not the best solution in a collaborative environment like we have. You can archive manually or use one of the archive bots that do tihis for you. Fram (talk) 08:51, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Fram: I used that bot before, but they won't work at times, I had decided to make archive one day, whenever I may create a userpage.
I had tagged "Diseases and epidemics of the 19th century" as HOAX, you can read the summaries there is heavy amount of fringe. I never tagged it as vandalism, maybe someone else added that tag.
"Pawan wadeyar" is what I would agree with, I should've used the Afd instead, and expect a speedy delete, but it is a unsourced BLP, so there is option for another PROD.
Manohar warti was not advertising? Maybe the editor changed the article after reverting the PROD template, I might be confusing with another, but that may have happened.
BIOFIN - I agree. OccultZone (Talk) 08:58, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The previous discussion took place on your talk page. It was User talk:Fram#Why Tag.3F, about a fictional building. OccultZone (Talk) 09:05, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You did tag it as Vandalism though [3], both the tag at the page and your edit summary refer to vandalism, not as a hoax. Doesn't really matter either way, it isn't a hoax, it may be a thoroughly wrong article and it probably warrants deletion for some reason, but that doesn't make it a hoax. When a new editor creates an article (posts his homework, by the looks of it) and gets accused of vandalism and hoax creation, chances are that he will never return, instead of perhaps becoming a useful editor. Fram (talk) 09:08, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Pawan wadeyar will not get a speedy delete, and will probably not be deleted at all (once it gets a source). Check Govindaya Namaha and 2nd South Indian International Movie Awards.
Manohar warti: this was the full text when you tagged it for advertising: "Manohar Singh Warti( Mannu ) was born Devlekh on 26 April 1989 in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. His father, Himmat Singh Warti, led India's Animal century in forest departments, and grew up with His mother, Belmati Devi , at the Warti Bhawan Devlekh; a large family estate in Devlekh. Manohar had a happy childhood.[6] His father was often away, directing Forest activities ," (yes, it ends with a comma...) Fram (talk) 09:08, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Figured, Hoax and vandalism are same thing, it reads "Pages that include blatant and obvious misinformation or hoaxes. (G3)" I don't know what to do especially when you have restored the page? You informed the involved admin?
If no one will add source, I will source Pawan wadeyar. Everything else has been dealt. OccultZone (Talk) 09:13, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Fram: Please share your opinion on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BIOFIN, I will list that Afd to deletion sorting, but later. OccultZone (Talk) 09:51, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Diseases and epidemics of the 19th century. OccultZone (Talk) 09:59, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely RHaworth, I assumed that article to be based on fringe theories so I selected vandalism. There was no other reason. OccultZone (Talk) 10:16, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How was the title inappropriate? And how is an article based on fringe theories "vandalism" or "hoax"? This is some piece of schoolwork by someone young, I would guess, not some fringe advocate, never mind a vandal. Fram (talk) 10:33, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

American football

Please don't change the disambiguation "American football" to footballer". Players that play in the NFL are known as American football players. Thanks.--Yankees10 16:37, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Yankees10: It was hours ago. I had that page on my watchlist, I had questioned the involved administrator, and they have described it well. I think I had indirectly addressed the page move on it's noticeboard so the admin caught attention. I am discussing about the other page moves currently, but nothing to do with these football ones. Whenever it has more bytes than usual, 5-18 bytes, then I have investigated. But that's after when I am done of about 300-500, depends. Last time there were about, 7/500. It happens usually because some people have used even more distinctive {(- WPBIO -)} {this is something that will need to be repaired later, though I had done manually), while sometimes it is just depending upon the selection of the option. Thanks for fixing all 3. OccultZone (Talk) 10:10, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated merge tag?

Can you explain this edit? We had two articles on the same person, so how can a merge tag in this case ever become outdated? Fram (talk) 12:57, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly writing, Fram I wanted to do that myself, but it is such a huge move that I thought of getting consensus for that. I had added the page to watchlist and special list. Merge tags are outdated after 2 months or more, I am not sure, but I usually check for the discussion, for checking if there is any "done" or "failed". But it is better that you have merged it. OccultZone (Talk) 13:00, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I haven't merged, I have redirected it (again, the previous one was reverted by the article creator). Merges don't automatically become outdated though, Category:Articles to be merged is clear evidence that these tags usually stay for a few years. Doing the merges would be good, removing incorrect merge tags as well, but otherwise merge tags should normally be left alone. Fram (talk) 13:03, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
All good, we will have a watch. OccultZone (Talk) 13:11, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I appreciate that you were trying to help improve the Onoff (retailer) article by tagging it as "dead end" and "orphan".

However, the notice at the start of the article made clear that the article was a work in progress.

That means I had not finished editing it, and still intended making further changes. Your additions caused an edit-conflict when I tried updating the article.

Please pay attention to such notices and exercise a little patience. Thank you.

Additional; Just as I was about to post this notice, you did exactly the same thing again (i.e. re-added the notices). Please stop doing this- the "Work in Progress" notice makes it perfectly clear that the article is not complete and this just causes irritating edit conflicts.
