Club career

Born in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Madrid of Moroccan descent,[2] El Haddadi scored 32 goals in 29 matches playing for CF Rayo Majadahonda, as a result of which he attracted interests from a number of sides like Real Madrid and Manchester City. He had an unsuccessful trial with Atlético Madrid, but signed for FC Barcelona's youth academy in 2011.[3] He made his UEFA Youth League debut against Ajax U19 where he scored 2 goals.[4] He scored braces against Milan U19 and Copenhagen U19, finishing the tournament scoring 11 goals in 10 matches. He scored a brace in the final against Benfica U19. [5]

In the beginning of 2014, he was linked to a number of clubs including Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.[6] Arsène Wenger called him "the next Cesc Fàbregas".[7] In 3 March 2014, he extended his contract with the club keeping him with the club until June 2017 with a release clause of 12 million which will increase to 35 million if he joins the first team.[8]

After being an unused substitute against CD Tenerife and Deportivo La Coruña, El Haddadi made his professional debut for FC Barcelona B on 2 March 2014, in a 1–2 away win against RCD Mallorca in second level, coming as a 72nd-minute substitute for Sandro Ramírez.[9] He scored his first goal as a senior player in a 2–1 home win against Girona FC on 19 April.[10]
