President [[Rafael Correa]] vision´s was clear: to regain the sovereignty and authority of strategic sectors, stop privatization processes in order to put them to service all Ecuadorians, creating efficient and effective public companies. In order to fulfill the President’s vision, Mr. Glas undertook some very complex political and technical challenges: He managed to merge the two national telephone companies (in the verge of being privatized) into one national public company, The National Telecommunications Corporation, and in the power sector, he succeeded in creating the National Electricity Corporation, grouping into one company the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power, creating a much more efficient and effective management. Such transformations were key in order to regain control of public strategic sectors, to strengthen the national authority of the State and broaden and improve public services to the public. |
