Maroochy Shire Council owns and operates three water supply dams – Poona Dam, Wappa Dam and Cooloolabin Dams. Poona Dam is predominantly used as operational storage just upstream of the water treatment plant. Poona Dam is an earthfill embankment dam with a toe drain.[1]

When full the dam can hold 655 megalitres.[1] Construction of the dam was completed in 1959.[1]
