Happy New Year, and welcome to a special double issue of Books & Bytes. We've included a retrospective on the changes and progress TWL has seen over the last year, the results of the survey TWL participants completed in December, some of our plans for the future, a second interview with a Wiki Love Libraries coordinator, and more. Here's to 2014 being a year of expansion and innovation for TWL!

The Wikipedia Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:

Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%

Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC

New pilot projects: Started the Wikipedia Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Wikipedia researchers

Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors

Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration

Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting

Rick Otton

Hello Whpq, Although I've been a registered editor for some time, I'm not a big editor of Wikipedia but a big reader. So I'm not 100% sure the steps how to delete a user page. I've noticed you have some prior experience in getting promotional user pages deleted.

Please have a look at this user page User:Rick_Otton and determine in your opinion if it's a candidate for deletion. I feel write ups such as these have no place on Wikipedia. I don't know why it has been put put up for deletion. If you look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maharana Pratap Engineering College, you will see that it was nominated for deletion by Naveenpf (talk · contribs) without stating a reason why it should be deleted. Hôtel de Boisgelin

Hello. I created Hôtel de Boisgelin, a disambiguation page, as there are more than one such places. I will try if I can create a few of them as stubs, but I am not very interested in France these days. Also, the French articles don't have inlined citations if I translate them, so it would be a lot of work to find the right citations. Feel free to create some of them. Those streets should also be created (they have pages on the French Wikipedia and are all main streets/roads), hence the red links on the disambiguation page. Deleted Page with no reason

Hello,

I made a page MikroTik because i am expert of it and i like the name. Can you please clarify why did my page delete? As far as i know i never did anything wrong which is against the rule of Wiki, therefore i also have some rights to know my mistake which i didn't do.

You can ask the deleting administrator about getting a copy of the deleted material. As for linking out from Wikipedia, that would very likely be a violation of our external link policies. I suggest you look at listing it in something like DMOZ once you have it created. -- Whpq (talk) 12:21, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Recent MfD nominations

Hey Whpq, I have noticed that you've been quite active over at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion, especially with nominating resumé-style user pages. I wanted to make you aware that several of these nominations qualify for deletion per CSD G11 as they only serve to promote someone (and violate Wikipedia:NOTLINKEDIN). Tagging such pages as G11 would eliminate the need to take uncontroversially self-promotional material to MfD, thus saving an extra step and some time. AS for the third question, I am not defending you in any way so your question makes no sense. And given that the third question makes no sense, the fourth question makes even less sense.
