Tekken 7 (鉄拳7) is an upcoming fighting game being developed by Bandai Namco Games. It will be the ninth installment in the Tekken fighting game series. The game will be using the Unreal Engine 4.[1] The game was announced at the 2014 Evolution Championship Series by Namco producer Katsuhiro Harada.[2]

Plot

While nothing much has been revealed, Harada said that the game will serve as the conclusion of the Mishima clan saga. It will apparently answer why Heihachi Mishima is trying to kill his grandson, why Heihachi threw Kazuya Mishima off of a cliff, who Devil Jin is, amongst other Tekken mysteries.[3] A trailer released in July 2014 introduced the backstory regarding Heihachi's wife, Kazumi, who was killed by him years prior to the events of the earlier games.[4]

Development

Tekken 7 was first announced by Tekken director, Katsuhiro Harada on July 13, 2014 during EVO 2014. Originally, the game was not planned to be announced during that event, but due to the leak of a video presentation of the game, Harada had no choice but to announce it.[5][6] It would make use of the Unreal Engine 4 game engine which would allow the game to be developed for multiple platforms.[1] Part of the teaser trailer in both English and Japanese was released during the announcement, featuring recurring characters Kazuya Mishima and Heihachi Mishima alongside an unidentified female figure later revealed to be a new character, Kazumi Mishima; the full teaser was shown during the 2014 San Diego Comic Con International.[7] While Bandai Namco was unable to show the gameplay system at the SDCC due to it still being worked for, they revealed several guest artists that would design the character arts, including those for Kazumi and Lars Alexandersson.[4] They also revealed that the game would focus on one-on-one battles again like previous numbered installments, not team-based as in the Tekken Tag Tournament series.[3]
