The Peace Run is a global relay which promotes international friendship and understanding, founded by Sri Chinmoy.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

History

Sri Chinmoy, launched in 1987 [1][3][6] a run for international friendship the Peace Run. The Liberty Torch Run, a relay to mark America's bicentennial in 1976, was the forerunner to this race.[7][8] The World Harmony Run was initially held every two years and then annually. From 2005 to 2013 he has the name World Harmony Run. In June 2013 he become back his previous name Peace Run.[9] The team of international runners carried a torch as a symbol of friendship. This team now includes runners from more than 100 countries.[2] The aim of the torch run is to promote understanding and the harmonious relationship between the peoples of all nations, faiths and cultures.[10] Often the runner team visit schools and the children sometimes write essays or paint pictures.[2][5] Persons like Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and Mikhail Gorbachev supported the run and were previous holders of the torch. And Carl Lewis is a spokesman. [11][12]

Song

An official theme song "Oneness-Home" was composed by Narada Michael Walden and recorded by Whitney Houston. [13][14]
