The Northern Storm Brigade, is a Syrian rebel group formed in 2011. Its leader and other members of the group were smugglers from the city and its surrounding before the Syrian Civil War. The group has been accused of kidnapping and smuggling.[2] The group retains exclusive control of the Bab al-Salam border crossing.[1]
History
The Northern Storm Brigade is responsible for the kidnapping of eleven Lebenese men in 2012. It fought in the Battle of Azaz (2012) and participated in the Siege of Menagh Air Base. It also clashed with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) after the jihadists attacked the town of Azaz in september 2013.
