The program is the oldest and the most prestigious of the institute's teaching programs.

Being a specialised programme it does not provide for further specialisation. Students choose an appropriate mix of elective courses according to their preferences. Business Management Programme

XLRI offers a two-year full-time programme on Business Management, on the completion which, candidates are conferred with Postgraduate diploma in Business Management (PGDBM). Started in 1968, this programme is extremely prestigious and is rated as one of the finest of its kind in the country. The alumni of this programme currently occupy very significant positions in various industries, both in India and abroad.

Global MBA Programme

XLRI launched its first-ever Global MBA Programme in partnership with Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western University, Cleveland, USA, and School of Economics and Management of Tongji University, Shanghai, China, on January 12, 2013. The full-time two-year residential global MBA programme commenced from August, 2013.

Their joint objective is to develop a new breed of managers with a truly global mindset: citizens of the world.

They seek to achieve this objective through a program which goes beyond being global merely in name. It envisages a global curriculum taught by an international faculty to students sourced from around the world; they will spend time studying at each of the three partner schools and will serve internships in mixed-nationality groups in leading companies in each country.

General Management Programme

GMP is a 15-months full-time residential program (i.e.; not meant for working executives). Candidates applying for General Management programme must hold a minimum of three years Bachelor's Degree from a recognised University in India/abroad in any discipline and must have at least five years of relevant managerial experience. Prospective students can apply to GMP through either XAT or GMAT which is followed by a group discussion and a personal interview of short-listed candidates. Group discussions were included as part of the admissions process from 2014.

The programme consists of core and optional courses designed for fast track executives with work experience. The core courses are categorised into seven major areas, Finance and Accounts, Marketing, Production and Operation, Information Systems, Human Resource Management and Organizational Behaviour, Economics, and Strategy. Completion of the core courses makes the way for the elective courses, chosen by the participants, helping them to further their areas of interest.

GMP has been ranked No. 4 by Outlook India in 2012.

The institute awards a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in General Management (AICTE accredited) to the participants who successfully complete all the requirements of this programme. Prior to 2013, the diploma awarded for this program was known as Executive Post Graduate Diploma in General Management (EPGDGM).

The FPM is a full-time, residential, doctoral programme that trains prospective scholars to become highly skilled and innovative researchers and teachers in various aspects of management. It primarily aims at preparing students for careers as faculty members at premier academic institutions. The rigorous academic process also prepares the students to take up critical job roles with the government and corporates where specialist inputs may be required. MAXI Fair

MAXI Fair

Marketing Fair, or MAXI Fair as it is more popularly known, is one of the largest events in Jamshedpur and an ISO 9001-2000[18] certified tool for conducting market research and consumer behavior pioneered by XLRI.[19] The fair is organized, supervised and conducted by MAXI – the Marketing Association of XLRI. Born of the vision of one of XLRI’s most eminent professors Dr Sharad Sarin 1979,[20] the novel concept of the Marketing Fair is today an accredited marketing research tool. This brilliant and innovative method goes beyond the blind testing concept and uses a carnival milieu to conduct meaningful consumer behavior research. The underlying concept involves designing games and events as surrogates to actual research questions to elicit unbiased and accurate information from customers regarding their preferences and perceptions. The concept has received great acclaim both in India and abroad. Over the years, stalwarts such as Philip Kotler[21] of the Kellogg School of Management, Theodore Levitt[22] of the Harvard Business School and Dr. Philip Adler of the DuPree College of Management, among others, have all personally commended the unique concept.[23] The concept has been presented at several US universities and has met with great success. Several Indian Business schools such as IIM Ahmedabad,[24] IIM Lucknow[25] and MDI have adopted the idea and conduct variants of the original marketing fair idea. This innovative concept finds supporters and followers in the corporate world. Several Indian and Multinational corporate giants like Aditya Birla Group, Bata, Berger Paints, Cadbury, Citibank, Coca-Cola, Colgate Palmolive, Dabur, GSK, Hindustan Unilever, HSBC, ITC Limited, Marico, Nestle, P&G, Pepsi, Phillips, Reckitt Benckiser, SBI, Titan, UNICEF and Voltas[26] have presented research problems to XLRI for study.[27][28] Brooke Bond launched a tea pack in India using insights from MAXI Fair which has gone on to become a Rs 100 crore brand.[29] Nestle changed its business strategy in launching Nestea based on MAXI Fair results.[30] PepsiCo decided to implement packaging design changes based on research done at MAXI Fair.[31]

Ensemble

Ensemble is the annual international management festival of XLRI School of Business and Human Resources in Jamshedpur, India.[32][33][34][35][36] The meeting is a conference of industry leaders, students from reupted business schools and thinkers from the Indian MBA community.[37][38] The festival is held in partnership with several corporate houses and includes competitions aimed at challenging the business acumen and social sensitivity of students. Ensemble is organised by the students of XLRI.

XLRI Ensemble Theme Launch

The Fest was first launched in 2001.[39] Themes of the conference have included "Beyond Conventions" in 2012, "Bridging The Gap" in 2011, and "Towards A Better Tomorrow" in 2010.

Each event at the conference is a day-long test of core concepts of the domain of the event through multiple rounds. Typically, each event has an online screening of teams, and the winners are invited to XLRI. The Flagship Events[40][41] include industry problems on General Management, Consulting, Finance,[42] Marketing, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Operations and Systems.[43] Domain events are industrial case studies in Finance, Marketing, Operations, Human Resources and Industrial Relations, conducted in close association with the co-curricular committees of XLRI.

'Idea Summit', featuring lectures from notable guest speakers and roundtable discussion with eminent thinkers from the Indian business world,[44] has always been the highlight of Ensemble, with some of the most respected minds from across India gracing the occasion. Past speakers in The Idea Summit have included Kiran Bedi,[45] Prahlad Kakkar, Leena Nair and Jagdish Capoor.

Ensemble also has a Business Quiz and a National Open Quiz as a part of the event.

The end of Ensemble is usually marked with cultural events including performances from reputed bands of the country. Ensemble 2011 featured Motherjane, an Indian rock band from Kochi, and the original Bodhi Tree band.
