Çürüklük is a small district in Kasımpaşa (quarter) of the Beyoğlu municipality on the European side of Istanbul, Turkey.
The word çürüklük means "rottenness," "garbage dump,"[1] or "graveyard for executed criminals and paupers."[2] The area is thought to have been built on the site of a Byzantine garbage dump that stretched from Elmadağ, Şişli to Tepebaşı (near the present British Consulate).[3]
Çürüklük is one of the historic Romani (Gypsy) neighborhoods of Istanbul.[4]
