Japan launched an attack on Batan Island on 8 December 1941, to get control of the airbase on the island. Japan used this airbase to launch attacks on other islands.
The invasion
Aparri was invaded on 10 December 1941, as part of six advance invasions to the Philippines, and done in unison with Japan's invasions of Vigan and Camiguin Island.[1]
