Pustra/Vile-een's Vaudeville was an unusual comedy duo that performed on the Alternative Cabaret and Neo-Burlesque scene in London, England and abroad. With their trademark comedy and unusually strange stage acts,[1] they quickly established themselves as a refreshing, subversive and highly talented duo with a twist of Sideshow, known for performing with pancake make-up and in their underwear. The duo was a product of the MySpace era and they created their act online, inspired by Silent films and slapstick comedy of the early 1900's - 1930's and continued to use Social Media to reach more and more fans. Featured in Time Out Magazine's [2] Creatures of The Night article alongside other established and emerging acts, the colorful duo was thrust into the spotlight. Noted appearances include Electric Picnic 2008 and the show Telling Tales (Too Terrible To Tell)[3]
The pair has been linked to The Tiger Lillies. They also worked with David Mitchell, from Channel 4's Peep Show TV series and performed for Musician, Peaches at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
Mr Pustra
The duo split up in August 2009 and Le Pustra or Mr Pustra, reinvented himself as 'Vaudeville's Darkest Muse' and have established himself since as a chic Internationally acclaimed performance artist, singer and fashion icon with a growing fan base across the globe using social media such as Facebook to promote his art. Le Pustra is often compared to German countertenor Klaus Nomi and other performers such as Nina Hagen, Leigh Bowery and Serge Gainsbourg. He has performed all over the world and his star continues to rise in the world of art, fashion and popular culture.
Miss Annabel Sings
Miss Vile-een continues performing as Miss Annabel Sings. Between 2009-2012 she was co-directing the collective, Eat Your Heart Out.[4] Their aim was to make performance art more accessible to everyone in venues such as pubs. She has been performing professionally as a Cabaret host, singer and experimental theatre maker Internationally and in the UK. Credits include: Supperclub Amsterdam and Glastonbury Festival as well as appearing in music videos for Frank Black, Billy Bragg and collaborating with American performance artist, Ron Athey during Fierce Festival 2012. She has produced and hosted various Cabaret nights including Dive, an eclectic underground LGBT performance club night in Edinburgh.
The duo plan to reform in 2015 but no tour dates have been announced as of yet.
