I'd love to take old Kelly on as a project. I was hoping some of the many stories about him were in Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Legends which I own, but sadly not. Regardless I've got his contemporary biography Slide, Kelly, Slide by Appel and his appearances in the New Bill James Historical Abstract for some starting source material. Any help you can provide would be excellent. As for his name, I really do think King fits better. As mentioned on his talk page, that is the name he is listed as on Baseball-Reference, Fangraphs, etc, etc. Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Whitey Ford, Catfish Hunter, plenty of players grow to be known by nicknames more than their real name. :*As per Jimmy McAleer and other FAs, isn't the common reference practice to have a "Notes" section for the individual refs and a "References" section for books cited multiple times? Staxringold talk<span style="position: relative; left: -16px; margin-right: -16px;">contribs</span> 05:07, 19 June 2009 (UTC) |

::I have seen multiple ways of doing this, so I have gone with what I believe to be the easiest for the reader to understand. To me, it seems easier that the book reference be above the "notes". WP:LAYOUT is pretty vague on this, it likes either references or notes, and the way I use references, was the preferred method by a GA reviewer, and it stuck with me; see Bill Lange. However, I am very receptive to others' views on these matters.<i><b><font color = "black">Neonblak</font><font color = "darkblue"> talk</font></b> - </i> 05:21, 19 June 2009 (UTC) |

::*Nah, this really does look more logical, I just don't want to hit a hiccup in the process down the line for formatting reasons. *Sorry I haven't done much since that first night of intro fixing. Started an LSAT prep course and my parents have been on vacation so between getting used to coursework and keeping the house in order haven't had much freetime. Hopefully after this Saturday I can get back into the swing of fixing up ol' Kel's article! Hello to those who participate in WikiProject Oregon. Once again it is time for the Collaboration Of The Week. A thank you to everyone who participated in the Dab Patrol and improvements to Maurice Lucas. For this week we have Oregon company FLIR Systems, and a maintenance type project with the FA Update Drive. For the later, pick any Oregon FA class article and read through it to make sure it is still up-to-date. == Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference == |
|||
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [mailto:permissions-en@wikimedia.org permissions-en@wikimedia.org]. |
|||
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled. |
|||
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use in or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. |
|||
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was <code>true</code>. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to <code>false</code> in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way. |
|||
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.<!-- Template:Di-no permission-notice --> <span style='color: #FFFF00;background-color: #0000FF;'>MBisanz</span> <span style='color: #FFA500;'>talk</span> 13:56, 10 July 2009 (UTC) |

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note. |

Hello to WikiProject Oregon folks, and get ready for another Collaboration Of The Week. Thank you to those who worked on the land fraud scandal and Mr. Wicks. This week we have one by request, Central Oregon, and a gnomish task, the Great Infobox Drive of '09. For the infobox drive, just find some articles without infoboxes and add one. People and companies are two prime areas as many do not have infoboxes, yet infoboxes exist for those areas. Howdy after a long message absence to those of WikiProject Oregon. To answer a common question, no you did not get removed from the COTW notification list, I was just too busy to send out the notification for the last change. So, thank you to all those who helped improve Central Oregon and Mount Jefferson, as well as those who added infoboxes and adopted a governor. For this edition of the COTW, we have partly by request and in honor of the return of college football, Duck football and Beaver football. If you are a fan of neither, maybe go back and work on a governor or add infoboxes this time around. Greetings from WikiProject Oregon. First, thank you to all those who helped improve the Ducks and Beavers football teams. Second, now on with the countdown. For this edition of the COTW, we have by request Portland Hempstalk Festival and Munson Valley Historic District. Greetings one and all. For some of you, this will be your first time receiving one of these messages, as it has been a year since the WikiProject Oregon Collaboration of the Week (COTW) was a regular thing. My hope is it gets back to being a regular thing. |

== Goodbye summer, hello Dolly! == |
|||
Usually I would go over the past COTW, but we are basically starting out anew. So, without further adieu, this edition is our semi-annual picture drive. We usually try to do it when there is decent weather in the state, and today seems to fit the bill. Now although you are encouraged to go out and take pictures, you can also just search the internet for images that have the proper licensing and upload those. Flickr is one site that has a fair amount of content with the proper licensing (most images on Flickr are not compatible). See WP:COPYRIGHT in general. For some “free” sources, check out the our dormant subproject that has some links to sources. |
|||
Hello WikiProject Oregon member, it is time for another Collaboration of the Week. First, thanks to those who helped out the last few weeks improving the Portland Hempstalk Festival and the Munson Valley Historic District articles. This week we have by request Rasheed Wallace and the Oregon Zoo. The later should have lots of recent news with the new/old exhibit opening. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Lastly, if you need to know what images we need, here are the requests. Please remove the request from the talk page if you add an image. |
|||
==File source problem with File:Mert hackett.jpg== |
|||
|
|||
Thanks for uploading :File:Mert hackett.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged. |
|||
Finally (this is not image related), as the years have passed, we have lost many good editors, and others, like myself, are no longer in school or are working full-time or both, and thus are less active in the project. The project lives on, but it has created a bit of a power vacuum without a de facto cabal still around all the time. With that in mind, I encourage newer project members to step-up and fill some leadership type roles. Granted, we have no formal ruling junta or anything and no real defined roles, but there are many maintenance type tasks that some of us just took on to keep the project going. For instance, I ran the COTW, was pretty much the only one doing assessments, updating the portal, and even handing out the awards. I am sure others in the project can name what things they have done. The point being, that while I enjoyed those and still do some of those, I simply no longer have the free time to do all of it at a level that the project deserves. That said, I hope to start a discussion at WT:ORE where we can see if some newer editors would like to step-up and take on some of these tasks, which will hopefully make for a more inclusive project, and maybe get us back to the heyday of say 2008 when things were really rocking for WikiProject Oregon. |
|||

DonnaHalper (talk) 18:22, 24 December 2011 (UTC) This is a copy of what I also left on the Murnane talk page, in case others want to contribute as well. First, thanks for the reply. Baseball-reference.com may indeed be reliable (as we all try to be),and I have queried them too. (I am also a SABR member, although a newer member than some.) But with no offense intended to others who know the topic better than I, it seems likely that somebody way back when made an error and then others just repeated it, since the claim is unsourced and the Archivist for Holy Cross (whom I called) does not find any record of a Timothy Murnane from Connecticut-- he finds one from Fitchburg (who seems to be a different Timothy Murnane, with a different middle name) who attended Holy Cross's prep school during those years, not Holy Cross college. Newspaper articles, and our Tim Murnane's own recollections, place him in Connecticut playing for Stratford, Norwalk and several other local teams in 1869-70, and all he ever mentions is going to school in Naugatuck in a one-room country school. I find no evidence he was in Massachusetts at that time, and he only mentions Massachusetts as a place he visited later, when he was playing baseball. THAT is why I am puzzled. So how do we address this? I certainly do not want to question anyone's research, and as much as I am known for being accurate, I know I too make mistakes sometimes. Suggested actions for clearing this up? Or do we just leave it alone for now? |

:The best thing that I can suggest, since you are a SABR member is to effect an update in the research. Seems reasonable to me that the original researcher may have confused the two Tim Murnanes. It is difficult to remove the information from the article, since the information does have at least one "reliable" resource. However, if you want to remove it, I have no issue with that, and others will hopefully see the talk page raising this issue. Accurate information is the community's ultimate goal.<i><b><font color = "black">Neonblak</font><font color = "darkblue"> talk</font></b> - </i> 08:13, 25 December 2011 (UTC) |

DonnaHalper (talk) 19:29, 25 December 2011 (UTC)I am finding all sorts of interesting research about him, including that the newspapers of the 1870s and early 1880s spelled his name Murnan. (So did the 1860 census.) I am hopeful I can provide some useful new additions to the research on him, as he was considered the dean of Boston's baseball writers for nearly thirty years. Oh, one thing you could do for me that I would really appreciate. I will absolutely be able to source my Murnane additions very soon, but the one thing I have never done right is how you good folks do the footnotes. I am a professor and a media historian, so I am accustomed to doing them with an internal citation, but I know you do it differently. I have been referred to some pages that show what looks like code of some kind, but I really would appreciate somebody explaining it me. Any ideas as to whom I might ask for a quick lesson? I learn much better when somebody shows me-- visual learner, and all that!!! Holiday good wishes to you and yours. |

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the article Boston Reds (1890–1891) all-time roster know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on April 23, 2012. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/April 23, 2012. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man, Dabomb87 or Giants2008, or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! The all-time roster of the Major League Baseball franchise's Boston Reds spans one season in the Players' League (PL) in 1890 (team pictured), and one season in the American Association (AA) in 1891. In each season, the Reds were their league's champion. The Reds were an instant success on the field and with the public. The team signed several top-level players, and they played in a larger, more modern ballpark than the Boston Beaneaters, the popular and well established cross-town rival. After the dissolution of the PL, the AA voted to allow the Reds into the new combined league. The Reds stayed intact by keeping several of their top players, and signed several other top-level players to fill the void of the departing players. When the 1891 season ended, the AA also folded, and the Reds were bought out by the surviving NL clubs. |

There's not a lot on him as a cricketer in what I would consider the "usual" places. This would be the major starting point for anyone as a cricketer, with this a list of his matches (all of which are below what may be considered "top class") recorded by the CricketArchive people. But it is missing several of the matches which are mentioned in the article, and the archive is by no means comprehensive. This may be the team he played against, but I'm not sure how reliable that tour article is, as this is not really my speciality. The matches given on the site are interesting, and according to this scorecard, the American Cricket Club was formed after this match. Finally, it doesn't tell us much about what he did as a cricketer such as his bowling style. I'm not too sure how much you know about cricket, so let me know if I can help further. Not sure if any of this helps! Sarastro1 (talk) 22:34, 21 May 2012 (UTC) |

I wasn't anticipating much more than what is recorded anyway, with his baseball taking up much of the summer, and his short lifespan. Hey all :). |

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :). |

Howdy WikiProject Oregon folks, time again for the latest installment of As the Collaboration Of The Week Turns. Last week was one of the more successful COTWs in recent memory as we really worked hard as a community to improve Concordia University and Berry Botanic Garden. Both are now at least C class articles and nicely illustrated (thanks to Tedder, Finetooth, and Ipoellet). Plus it really was a group effort as we had five different WPORE editors work on the garden and ditto with the school, with some overlap between the two. |

Hello Neonblak, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of :Bill Clymer, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Any player for a "major league" franchise who played at the top professional level of their sport is considered notable, therefore deserves an article. :No problem, the reason I reviewed this so quickly was that I thought this was an interesting cricketer, although I know very little about the sport (I'm in the US, where they don't show the sport on TV). I left a comment on the GA nom page about an issue raised by another user, in respect to Ganguly's coaching legacy, I think that an explanation of the good and bad would be great for comprehensiveness, and would not fall into in a cruft stage. Although I think that the one sentence covering his two years in county were awfully short, I wouldn't hold back the GA on that alone.<i><b><font color = "black">Neonblak</font><font color = "darkblue"> talk</font></b> - </i> 07:12, 7 February 2010 (UTC) |

==DYK for Jack Stivetts== |

Greetings WikiProject Oregon member, time for the next edition of the Collaboration of the Week. Thanks to those who assisted in improving a few articles over the last month. For May Day edition of the COTW (in Wikipedia time its May already), we have by request Rim Village Historic District and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (AKA OMSI). Rim Village just needs some refinement to get to GA, while OMSI needs a lot of work in general. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Adios (on May 5th that is). Aboutmovies (talk) 04:49, 1 May 2010 (UTC) |

Hello, your nomination of Kansas City Cowboys (AA) all-time roster at DYK was reviewed and comments provided. --NortyNort <small>(Holla)</small> 04:28, 29 August 2010 (UTC) |
|||
You can imagine my confusion...I'm making a correct grammatical change, and this Neonblak editor insists on reverting back to the incorrect grammar. But it was tunnel vision on my part. I didn't notice my apparent deletion of Jim's entire player stats box. |
|||
==DYK for Kansas City Cowboys (AA) all-time roster== |
|||
Here's what happened. All I did was give the Edit (Beta) a try, and apparently by changing three words, I inadvertently deleted a large stat-box of the article...somehow. Super confusing. I suppose I'll just stick with Edit Source from here on out, as that Beta characterization is dead on. |
|||
As you can see from the new official edit, I was simply making a grammatical change. Sorry for the trouble, and thanks for your diligence, and more importantly, thank you for serving our country. <small><span class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by Elgreggo11 (talk • contribs) 03:49, 13 August 2013 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

Infobox height/weight
Be bold and just add it as an optional parameter. It won't affect the articles that don't use it, but gives you the option. Plus that information has long been tracked, may as well present it. Staxringold talkcontribs 07:34, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.
For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:34, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

WPORE COTW 2.0 - the picture edition
Greetings one and all. For some of you, this will be your first time receiving one of these messages, as it has been a year since the WikiProject Oregon Collaboration of the Week (COTW) was a regular thing. My hope is it gets back to being a regular thing.
Lastly, if you need to know what images we need, here are the requests. Please remove the request from the talk page if you add an image.
As always, please click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Aboutmovies (talk) 22:09, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Height and Weight
Hi ... I seem to have re-started a discussion that you took part in, on a different noticeboard, six months back on the possibility of adding height and weight to the baseball infobox. Did Tim Murnane Attend Holy Cross?
- The best thing that I can suggest, since you are a SABR member is to effect an update in the research. Seems reasonable to me that the original researcher may have confused the two Tim Murnanes. It is difficult to remove the information from the article, since the information does have at least one "reliable" resource. However, if you want to remove it, I have no issue with that, and others will hopefully see the talk page raising this issue. Accurate information is the community's ultimate goal.Neonblak talk - 08:13, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Main Page appearance
Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the article Boston Reds (1890–1891) all-time roster know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on April 23, 2012. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/April 23, 2012. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Tbhotch.™ Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 04:56, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Jim Creighton at cricket
Sarastro1 (talk) 22:34, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- It helps explain just how much he was actually involved in the Cricket world during that time. I wasn't anticipating much more than what is recorded anyway, with his baseball taking up much of the summer, and his short lifespan. I don't know much of anything about Cricket, but I was looking to see if anyone could write a better narative than I could about his involvement with the sport. Thanks for the help, looks like I could add another line or two in that section to give it a little more comprhensiveness.Neonblak talk - 08:10, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding
You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyeswikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).
If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:31, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Neonblak, just so you know, when you're the nominator of a DYK, you shouldn't do anything to it once it is promoted and in a prep area, and you certainly shouldn't revert the promotion like you did with Jack Stivetts today. If the person promoting it makes a mistake, please place a request for a fix on WT:DYK, and it will get taken care of. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:10, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Jim Creighton
Ahh...the Edit (Beta) is the culprit!
You can imagine my confusion...I'm making a correct grammatical change, and this Neonblak editor insists on reverting back to the incorrect grammar. But it was tunnel vision on my part. I didn't notice my apparent deletion of Jim's entire player stats box.
Here's what happened. All I did was give the Edit (Beta) a try, and apparently by changing three words, I inadvertently deleted a large stat-box of the article...somehow. Super confusing. I suppose I'll just stick with Edit Source from here on out, as that Beta characterization is dead on.
As you can see from the new official edit, I was simply making a grammatical change. Sorry for the trouble, and thanks for your diligence, and more importantly, thank you for serving our country. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elgreggo11 (talk • contribs) 03:49, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for August 13
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Jimmy Lavender, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page San Francisco Seals (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
