{{Re: your entry for “Bat Bomb”. I am the sole surviving crew member of this World War II effort and the author of the only factual book on the subject. I note an inappropriate statement in your piece that should be corrected.

At the end of your description of the project is the statement: “Lovell also mentioned that bats during testing were dropping to the ground like stones.” This is misleading as it implies that the weight carrying tests were negative. In fact, in order to determine the weight carrying capacity of the bats in flight, it was necessary to find just how much they couldn’t carry--a basic factor in such an investigation. Further tests showed the weight they could carry.

Lovell’s negative view at the beginning was not a deterrent, as the project was authorized and went on to a successful conclusion and was stopped only by the
invention of the atomic bomb.}}

Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)
    • For other types of questions, use the search box, see the reference desk or Help:Contents. If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page.
    • Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
    • If your question is about a Wikipedia article, draft article, or other page on Wikipedia, tell us what it is!
    • Check back on this page to see if your question has been answered.
    • For real-time help, use our IRC help channel, #wikipedia-en-help.
    • New editors may prefer the Teahouse, a help area for beginners (but please don't ask in both places).

    Assistance needed!

I am a longtime editor of Wikipedia, and just moved to a new computer yesterday. I cannot log in, because I cannot for the life of me remember my password! I have provided my email address and my user names (it is Melos Antropon), and I get the message that a temporary password will be sent by email. I have tried that six times - no email! Can you please help? Very grateful for any assistance!

    Melos Antropon 50.36.170.27 (talk) 00:17, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My email address is: [redacted for privacy]

User:Melos Antropon has not specified an email address in the account so you cannot request a new password. For privacy reasons Special:PasswordReset doesn't reveal whether an entered email address is saved in an account so you may get a misleading message there if you fill out the email field. If you don't remember the password then you have to create a new account. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:28, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you still have access to your old computer, you might be able to find a list of your stored passwords in your browser's security settings.--Shantavira|feed me 09:14, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Template bug?

I've got a bug affecting this page, List of Phi Sigma Kappa brothers, which I cannot figure out. Is it a problem in the template, called {{FratMemberStart}}? The second column of each section contains additional formatting instructions, which appear to be from the template code itself. For example, where a field should simply say:

    Delta (West Virginia), 1877

    Instead it says:

    align="center" | Delta (West Virginia), 1877

Thank you for helping repair this problem.Jax MN (talk) 01:47, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reporting this. It was indeed a problem in a recent edit to {{FratMemberStart}}. It affected many articles. I have fixed it.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 02:17, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Declined

Hey, I am not sure why the wiki page I created was declined. If there were any policy issues, kindly let me know so that I'll work upon them.

    Hoping to hear back soon.

Thanks, Gunjan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gunjantaneja (talkcontribs) 01:50, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The reasons for declining are explained in the box at the top of your draft submission. Basically, you have not established that the subject is notable, see WP:42. SpinningSpark 02:05, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to a Polish language page

I am trying to link two pages together. I want to link the English language History of the Poles in the United States with its Polish language equivalent, https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historia_Polak%C3%B3w_w_Stanach_Zjednoczonych. I've tried doing it myself, and it gives me an error message. Please help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pola.mola (talkcontribs) 03:08, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This looks like a bug in the coding behind Wikipedia, rather than anything you're doing wrong. I'll let the technical village pump know. --ais523 04:14, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
Page pl:Historia Polaków w Stanach Zjednoczonych has been moved to user Pola.mola's sandbox, so hold on with interlanguage linking. --CiaPan (talk) 05:56, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Don't hold on. The page is ready to be linked, there is nothing I can do with it in the Polish sandbox.Pola.mola (talk) 16:47, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • That page does not fit Wikipedia standards. It's full of grammar and vocabulary errors (like an auto-translator's output), it is not formatted properly, it lacks any sources of information given, it has no incoming and few outgoing wikilinks... It's simply not a Wikipedia article, at best you can call it a base for an article's draft. That's why it's been removed from the main article space, and that's also why it is not ready to be cross-language linked. --CiaPan (talk) 14:06, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • What kind of problem do you have with editing your sandbox? You have an account active on pl-wiki and you successfully created an article, you also managed to add a comment to some other user's talk page (pl:Special:Contributions/Pola.mola). What prevents you from editing the sandbox page? May be you can ask for some assistance at the technical table in pl:WP:BAR or in pl:Babel. --CiaPan (talk) 14:06, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
pl:Historia Polaków w Stanach Zjednoczonych was deleted on the Polish Wikipedia, so the issue is moot. If the article is properly recreated, then we can revisit the issue. Issues on the Polish Wikipedia need to be resolved there. --  Gadget850 talk 14:18, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

editing in delhi assembly election data

Some discrepancy in the entries found in few of the constituencies like chandni chowk Chandni Chowk (Delhi Assembly constituency) number of votes is wrong and a few more. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.15.249.154 (talk) 07:22, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It's really not very helpful to tell us that something in an article is wrong, without giving any more information. If you have a reliable source for the correct information, you are welcome to edit the article and correct it (citing the source). Otherwise, you can start a discussion on the article's talk page Talk:Chandni Chowk (Delhi Assembly constituency), detailing what changes you think should be made. --ColinFine (talk) 10:31, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Infobox coordinates broken

I've just noticed that the display of coordinates in infoboxes is broken. It appears to affect at least several infoboxes (including Infobox mountain pass and Infobox station) and quite possible all of that use coordinates. I'm afraid the complex syntax, and large number of sub-templates, is beyond me; I cannot even identify which template has been changed. As it could be causing quite widespread issues, I thought I'd better report it here in case somebody else can help. For examples, see Furka Pass and St. Gallen railway station. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 11:57, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It was reported a number of days ago at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 131#Coordinates display appears to be broken and had supposedly been cured, but it seems to have returned. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:13, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I just noticed that User:Deor has also reported this at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Coordinates problem again. Seems that it is system-wide. Hopefully it will get fixed before I get to read about it in tomorrows dead-tree media. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 12:19, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
More information: Bugzilla ticket 72559 that refers to this problem was reopened at 11:58 today. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 12:27, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article about GamerGate is a blatant attack on GamerGate supporters

Wikipedia is meant to be a source of OBJECTIVE information. It is not a platform for SJWs OR GamerGate supporters to throw sticks at one another. It is most definatly the SJWs doing most of the throwing. GamerGate supporters are sickeningly under represented in the media. If you asked a GamerGate supporter what they wanted, they'd say real guidelines and standards within the gaming journalism realm. They don't want to push women out of gaming. They don't want to oppress women. They want a reliable, uncorrupted source of gaming reviews. That's it. The media is focused on GamerGate supporters supposedly harassing women and sending out death threats, but the same atrocities committed by the anti GamerGate side aren't shown. Christopher Poole (Moot), the admin of 4chan was sent death threats to his home address as he allowed freedom of speech on 4chan and let people talk about GamerGate, and yet this wasn't brought to light. And it must be questioned, why are these self-proclaimed feminists fighting GamerGate when there is real and serious oppression of women all over the world, such as young female circumcision and arranged marriages in Northern Africa?

By letting this article remain in the sorry, subjective and frankly offensive state it is in, Wikipedia is supporting the trampling of the right to freedom of speech and the harassment and bullying that the anti GamerGate side has been vomiting all over GamerGate supporters. But harassment and bullying is ok if you're white and disagree with the SJW movement, right?

In the words of the factual Christina H. Sommers, "Check the constitution, not your privellege." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.42.8.165 (talk) 12:12, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

By posting here, you are ranting at thousands and thousands of people, most of whom have never looked at the article Gamergate controversy. There is no "editorial board" which decides about articles, they are all determined by consensus. I see that the article already has a tag that says that its neutrality is disputed: you are welcome to contribute to improving it on its talk page Talk:Gamergate controversy. But note that you will be more likely to have an effect if you discuss specific claims that you think should be added, removed or changed, and provide references to independent reliable sources that support your position. --ColinFine (talk) 12:57, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's a controversial topic and Talk:Gamergate controversy is semiprotected due to persistent disruptive editing. You will have to register an account and become autoconfirmed to participate in the discussion. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:06, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Since Talk:Gamergate controversy is semi-protected until 25 January 2015 the IP can not contribute there. GB fan 13:07, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I didn't realise the talk page was semiprotected (and I can't see anything that tells me that it is). In that case, I guess that here is a good place to request changes - but they still need to be specific changes with references, not generalised rants. --ColinFine (talk) 14:07, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Meanwhile, the article needs attention. The first paragraph starts "Gamergate .. is a controversy", and then refers to "GamerGate supporters". Never mind the different spelling, these supporters are not supporting a controversy. Maproom (talk) 14:05, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    My reference section isn't working!

I'm using the reference tags to refer to references at the end of appropriate paragraphs, but these references aren't then showing up under the Reference section.

For example I have written the following sentence: "Buckingham Tennis Club was founded in 1912".[1]

What am I doing wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barclaven1 (talkcontribs) 12:22, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rather than duplicate the <ref> tags in the References section, you should add the template {{reflist}}, which will automatically populate the section from your references. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 12:31, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    ==== Sub-subsection heading ====
The full list of markup codes is given at Help:Wiki markup. If this isn't what you needed to know, please could you state your problem in a little more detail and let us know on which page the problem occurs: Noyster (talk), 20:21, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Help from another experienced editor?

Could someone look over at Mamie Van Doren? I've been doing a bunch of things in real life today and have only had time to make two quick reverts to an editor's actions there. I've finally had a moment to put a more thoughtful explanation together on the talk page and I'd like to revert again but I'd be breaking WP:3RR. So, could someone else have a look? Thanks, Dismas|(talk) 18:47, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted, left a note on the editor's talk page. We will see what happens. GB fan 19:07, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If it is a blatent copyvio, 3RR does not apply. If it is just non-notable with copyrights granted by owner, probably move that image down into body per WP:UNDUE. I guess they'll discuss after GB's talk page notice notice. --lTopGunl (talk) 19:34, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, both. I thought 3RR didn't apply due to the copyvio but didn't have much time today. Dismas|(talk) 02:25, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

They uploaded more copyrighted images and reinserted them into the article. I have blocked them for 36 hours, will see if that gets their attention. GB fan 09:54, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now using a sockpuppet since they were blocked both here and at Commons. Sockpuppet blocked and article semi-protected. GB fan 13:19, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How to capture an image from a YouTube video

I'm editing the article Mister Smile, which is about an animated short film that can be viewed on YouTube. I'd like to include an image of the film in the infobox, but there don't seem to be any photos already online that I could use. What's the best method for capturing a screepcap from the YouTube video? I've never done this before. The only way that I can think of would be to copy the entire webpage (Ctrl/sysrq), paste it into a paint file, and then crop it. Would that be fine? --Jpcase (talk) 01:50, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and captured the image that way. If for any reason I shouldn't have though, then please let me know on my talk page. Thanks. --Jpcase (talk) 02:19, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Your lack of accessability

I hate to say this but not all people were born with an iPhone 6 or a computer modem in their hand.

Get back to basics. Offer an easy printing option-which does NOT exist. Charge for it if you like-but not everyone is computer savvy, preferring books-thank God.

I wanted to print the characters and cast of THE WALKING DEAD. No not allowed/found.

This is BULLSHIT. And your problem solution offers are CRAP. It has taken me 30 minutes to get a contact email address because your ridiculous links kept sending me elsewhere.

I understand you do not want others to get free info. Fine. Charge a fee. But make everything printable like the Australian banks, NAB and CBA do.

If you are the same Samantha Ward, you had similar answers before :[2] Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:37, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Samantha. I get that you are frustrated and angry. What I don't understand is why you think it will help you with your problem coming here and SHOUTING at thousands of people, most of whom know little about printing in Wikipedia; and the ones who do know unable to help you because you haven't explained what the problem is. It's like somebody going to a busy street in front of a couple of garages and shouting to everybody there "Hey, you b****s, you haven't fixed my car".
Like many of the people who read this page I come here because I want to help people use and contribute to this great project. I'm the sort of person who enjoys helping people. But I don't like being shouted at, I especially don't like being shouted at for something that is nothing to do with me; and I can't help people who don't explain what the problem is. I am utterly bemused that you think somebody wants to charge you for something: that is utterly contrary to what Wikipedia is about; but again, without knowing what you are seeing, there's no way I could explain what's going on.
Now, would you like to calm down, and explain what you are trying to do, what result you get, and why this is not satisfactory for you? --ColinFine (talk) 11:13, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You can print a Wikipedia page by selecting FilePrint from your browser.

    • In the left sidebar of each Wikipedia page is a selection for 'Printable version'. This is a very basic print function, mainly of use for very old browsers. See Help:Printable.
    • If the file menu does not show on a Windows system, pressing Alt should reveal it.
    • On a Mac using Safari, Reader mode is usually a better choice for printing. Older versions of Safari will show the Reader button to the right of the web address; newer versions show an icon to the left of the web address. Reader mode assembles articles that are split over multiple pages and removes ads, menu bars, and other clutter.
    • For more control over printing, log into your account and enable Preferences → Gadgets → Print options gives you more control when printing content. 'Printable version' will then show as 'Print page'.

If you still have problems then also say which browser/device you are trying to print with. Are you saying it is an iPhone 6 and you can use it to print other webpages on your printer? PrimeHunter (talk) 12:12, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What page of Wikipedia are you asking for help with? What precisely is the problem with it? --ColinFine (talk) 11:19, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This page is a start, although I don't know what the problem is. Britmax (talk) 19:38, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that game is set in Rhode Island, if I do recall. But what does that have to do with anything? Also, Rhode Island is in New England, so please refer to it as Rhode Island, New England, United States in the future. Tharthandorf Aquanashi (talk) 19:40, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I assume that your reference to including New England in the state reference is intended to be humorous. On the Internet, no one knows that you are being sarcastic, and could actually think that you are citing some obscure rule in the MOS about place naming. There is no such rule. A US state name followed by country name (United States) is unambiguous. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:07, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In most instances like this, it probably would have been sarcasm. But... not here. Check my userpage for context. Tharthandorf Aquanashi (talk) 21:41, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that New England is a distinct linguistic and cultural region within the United States. However, any reference to Rhode Island implies New England. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:01, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Mayhap, but many people who would use the phrasing "Rhode Island, United States" probably would be less familiar with New England. Tharthandorf Aquanashi (talk) 22:45, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What is the problem with the web page, anyway? Robert McClenon (talk) 22:01, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So she would like to called Cheryl Fernandez -Versini — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shaun3559 (talkcontribs) 20:55, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article in question is Cheryl Cole. On the one hand, her name change to Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is sourced in the article lede. On the other hand, I am hesitant to move the article at this time because the article has already been the subject of recent move warring, and conflict over whether she is normally known mononymously as Cheryl (singer). For that reason, I would suggest that you discuss on the article talk page with a Requested Move to get consensus. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:21, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini does redirect to her. Detailed page history

Is there any tool (beyond scrolling through page history) which will enable me to see which users have edited a specified page, and how many edits each has made? RolandR (talk) 21:11, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, there is. Go to the page history, click "Revision history statistics", scroll down to "Top editors". There's quite a bit of this kind of information there, pie charts followed by a table. ‑‑Mandruss  00:00, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you; I knew I'd seen this somewhere. But this raises another problem. I'm trying to trace long-running vandalism on Aliyah, and the Top Editors tool tells me that the top editor by text added is User:165.155.192.78, credited with 42.9% of the article text.[3] However, when I look at that editor's contributions, it appears that they have made just one edit to the page, adding a total of 6 bytes. There is clearly an error here. Where can I go for help in clarifying this? RolandR (talk) 00:42, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I used browser Find to look for other occurrences of 165.155.192.78 on the stats page. Near the top, that IP is given "max text added" (in a single edit) honors for an edit on 28 October. The byte count shows +103,177, which would certainly qualify for the honors, but clicking on the byte count gives you the diff for the 6-byte edit you mentioned. 103,177 was the article size after the edit, not the increase. Looks like a bug in the data collection or in the tool. I wouldn't know where to report that, but it could be related to the message at the top of the page, "Notice: Again issues with Tool Labs databases after db maintenance. Some wiki's won't work. Sorry about that!". I've found that with some of these tools you take what you get. You might look at Revision history search and see if that's of any use in your vandalism investigation. ‑‑Mandruss  01:58, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cannot see how to align text in columns of this table

I've tried many ways and looked at many resources to get all the first column of the table below to align left, with all subsequent columns aligning center.

I can't get it to work. There are a few tables that need identical formatting. The most efficient code would be great. Working cell-by-cell would be very clumsy.

Here is the markup so far (from page Duke_language):

    Form 1S 2S 3S 1Pinc 1Pexc 2P 3P
Preposed qu mu nona noda mami mi di
Suffix -qu -mu -na -da -ma -mi -di

It's probably obvious to those in the know, but I can't find any clear answer in Help:Table or related resources. Can I get help please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stringybark (talkcontribs) 21:19, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In the table headerstyling, use style="text-align: center;" to set the style for all cells. Then for the cells you want left aligned, add style="text-align: left;. HTML width is obsolete, so use a CSS style. --  Gadget850 talk 22:08, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Lists based on ethnicity

Should lists exist for all members of a certain group that belong to the same ethnicity? I recently came across List of black animated characters and began to do some much needed clean up on the page, but before getting very far, I started to wonder whether the list really ought to exist at all. I noticed a discussion to this effect here, - Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of British Asian people - and although that article was eventually turned into a redirect, the actual discussion closed without consensus. A list about black animated characters would certainly prove more manageable than lists of British minority groups, but all the same, the topic seems overly extensive to me. Personally, I think that it would be better to create articles that provide critical analysis of each minority group within the context of various topic areas, rather than trying (and most likely failing) to create exhaustive lists of every person/character who falls within each category. For example, we could have an article called Black characters in animation, which could discuss how various scholars, critics, historians, et. al. have perceived the portrayal of black animated characters throughout different eras. Examples of particularly notable characters could still be provided, but there would be no attempt to cover every single black character in animation. This is just a hypothetical article though - I have no definite intentions of creating it myself.

I do think that we should probably define some kind of standard for this though; that way editors know whether to continue creating these sorts of lists. Otherwise, we'll have inconsistent coverage (e.g. why don't we have a page called List of Asian animated characters?) Does anyone agree? If so, how would we go about establishing a guideline to this effect? --Jpcase (talk) 21:24, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, lists are an area with not much precise agreed policy. The Manual of Style for lists sets out the main uses of lists, which may point to whether a proposed list would be worth creating. Separately, the Manual of Style for stand-alone lists has a section on appropriate topics for lists. Then there are the guidelines and essays linked in the "guidelines" section of WP:WikiProject Lists. You could take a look at these and make some suggestions at the talk page of the WikiProject itself, or of whichever page seems most relevant. I'm sure more clarification would be welcome on what lists we should or shouldn't have, and the criteria for what goes into them: Noyster (talk), 20:01, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Retrotransposon marker

I am trying to edit this page: Retrotransposon marker

The second sentence of the third paragraph has a typo "orthologues" should be "orthologous"

Unfortunately, the word links to a specific section of another entry in Wikipedia. I do not know how to preserve this link while also changing the typo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Runnerdan48 (talkcontribs) 23:14, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'll assume that you know how to edit the page, and that the question is only about this particular kind of change. Edit the page, locate [[Homology (biology)#Orthology|orthologues]], and change it to [[Homology (biology)#Orthology|orthologous]]. The part before the | is the link, and the part after it is what displays on the page. It's called a piped link. Does that help? ‑‑Mandruss  23:40, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Creating a new article

I wrote a new article (it's my first) with the corresponding media files that I uploaded to the server, but I can't figure how to publish it. The upload wizard is not helping at all. Your draft article has been moved to Draft:Nabila Mikhail Youssef; but there is no point uploading photos and the like until the article itself is cleaned up enough to actually be used as an encyclopedia article. --Orange Mike | Talk 07:46, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Mariana Thomas: I have some recommendations that you can implement into the article. First, you need a clearer opening paragraph. This could be something like Nabila Mikhail Youssef (October 1935 - October 2013) was an Egyptian .... Secondly, you'll need to find reliable sources (not self-published, see our notability guidelines), to back up your claims. Next, you need to clean up your article by adding internal links and splitting your work up into paragraphs. As Orangemike said, you're going to have to clean your article up before you add a picture. Leave me a message on my talk page if you need further help! How am I supposed to delete pages in my own user space?

Nominating a stale private user page (e.g. User:YohanN7/Cantor's antinomies, for which I have no use anymore) for deletion seems like overkill. Is it enough to just blank it and save? I doubt that... YohanN7 (talk) 09:20, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You can blank it and leave it if you want, but if you want it deleted, add {{db-u1}} to the top of the page and an admin will stop by and delete it. GB fan 09:23, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

She has recently got married again and would previous not like to be called Cheryl Cole because that her ex husband name (Ashley Cole) he cheated on her several time they divorce couple of years ago. Hello Shaun3559. The change you want is controversial: it was discussed on Talk:Cheryl Cole, and there was an overwhelming consensus NOT to make that change. The reason was that people still predominantly call her "Cheryl Cole". There are some people on the talk page, however, who think the page should be titled just "Cheryl". Identify a spider

what if i just have a question about the natural world around me and i don't want to have to sign into a program to ask it?

LIKE - i saw a big green spider and i can't seem to see it online or in books or through my fellow scientist colleagues

i did not photograph it. i went into the woods with nothing.

I was in georgia close to savannah.

i want to know if anyone online knows of this spider or if it is the first to be seen. the internet is a big place but it seems you have to login and i don't know why it seems annoying.

    • the spiders was as big as a texas sized tarantula, but not harry.
    • it had a green belly, or the big bottom part of the body and small black spots.
    • it's web was between two massive trees and it sat in the middle of it.

i was very intimidated and backed away slowly.

how could i search for something like this on your website.

The best way to find the answer to that question at Wikipedia is probably to ask it at the science desk. Replace obsolete picture

Regarding missing image of “1938 Ohio License Tag” on site: Vehicle registration plates of Ohio

I have found an image suitable to replace the “blank image” located at: File:Blank License Plate Shape.jpg

I have successfully uploaded the JPEG of the appropriate image to: File:Ohio 1938 NWT Centennial.jpg

I have followed online instructions the best I am able, but I have been unable to add the image to the article, AND unable to “UPDATE” the blank JPEG with my replacement that I found on www.ebay.com and personally edited appropriately to make the “swap.”

Will you either “make the replacement” for me or give me detailed directions of how to do it? My preference would be for you to do it. I am not interested in getting credit for it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr.Gale.B (talkcontribs) 18:23, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Mr.Gale.B: You can update the image by simply replacing the file name in the table (i.e. replace Blank_License_Plate_Shape.jpg with Ohio_1938_NWT_Centennial.jpg). However, there is a bigger problem - the image you uploaded appears to not be properly sourced or licensed. All images on the Wikimedia Commons should be freely licensed by their original authors. You cannot take another person's photograph and upload it to the Commons if they have not appropriately licensed it. Stemming off of this, proper attribution needs to be provided for the original author. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:33, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Not to complicate things, but to expand on this, it is also true that a simple picture of a public domain work also falls into the public domain. If the license plate falls in the public domain, it could be argued that the image you have uploaded is also in the public domain. I'm not sure if all Ohio license plates are in the public domain, or if the license plate is complicated enough to warrant copyright, so that may be a good question to bring up at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. If the plate does qualify as being in the public domain, proper sourcing should still be included, however. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:50, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Lovell’s negative view at the beginning was not a deterrent, as the project was authorized and went on to a successful conclusion and was stopped only by the invention of the atomic bomb.}}
