Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Sophia Sider (born in Boca Raton, Florida) is an American singer-songwriter. She released her first single, "Butterfly", in February 2012, followed by an EP of the same name on June 3, 2012. In conjunction with her music career, Sider is an anti-bullying activist, and tours the country to bring her bully prevention assemblies to elementary and middle school students. Sider has sung over 20 national anthems for major league sports teams, and is a spokesperson for GWEN (Global Womens Empowerment Network) and PACER Teens Against Bullying.
Music career
Musical beginnings
Growing up, Sider listened to popular music of her generation - such as The Cheetah Girls, Hannah Montana, and Taylor Swift - and also that of her parents' and grandparents' - such as Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra, Anne Murray, Dolly Parton and The Monkees. Sider also became familiar with television series and films from earlier years - such as The Andy Griffith Show, Bonanza, White Christmas, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and The Sound of Music. At the age of five, Sider's parents took her to see her first musical theatre production, "Annie Get Your Gun," at the Jackson Hole Playhouse in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Sider knew that she wanted to do the same thing one day. The following summer, Sider returned to the Playhouse to be a part of their children's theatre camp, in which she participated in her first play. Sider loved it so much that she continued to perform in at least two plays each summer, for the following years.
Also at the age of six, Sider started taking piano lessons. When she was nine, she used her piano skills to start writing songs, her first being titled, "I Want You." Around the same time, in May of 2008, nine year old Sider sang the national anthem for a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park, her first anthem for a major league sports team. A few years later, when Sider was about eleven, she was inspired to take out the guitar that she had gotten for Christmas a few years back, and teach herself how to play. She went to Google and typed in "guitar chords," and slowly started to get comfortable with changing from one chord to the next. Shortly after learning, Sider began to write songs on the guitar.
In June of 2011, at the age of thirteen, Sider took one of her first trips to Nashville, Tennessee, to professionally write and record with Liz Rose, Keith and Adrienne Follese, Jamie O'Neal, Lisa Drew and Jimmy Murphy. It wasn't until Sider's next trip to Nashville, in October of 2011, that she teamed up with Jamie O'Neal, Lisa Drew, and Jimmy Murphy for a second time, to write what would become Sider's first release, "Butterfly." That same October, Sider traveled to Kuttawa, Kentucky with her band to open for O'Neal. More recently, Sider has opened for Aaron Tippin and Gloriana.
Career
Sider's debut single “Butterfly,” released in 2012, was inspired by her personal experience with overcoming bullying and teasing in elementary school. The single peaked at #40 on the MusicRow Chart and the official video of Sider recording the song in O’Neal’s Nashville studio has over 1,000,000 views on YouTube.
In 2013, Sider's second single “I Love You That Much,” written and produced by Joe Vulpis, peaked at #37 on the MusicRow Chart [1]. The official music video [2] was shot in Los Angeles by director Steven Goldmann.
Appearances include The Queen Latifah Show [3], Hallmark Channel's Home And Family Show [4], Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, The Better Show, Billboard, Time for Kids, and Country Weekly.
In late 2014 Sider recorded her self-titled EP with producer James Stroud, which is scheduled to release in early 2015.
"Nobody Has The Power To Ruin Your Day" Bully Prevention Assembly Tour
In the fall of 2013 Sider created a bully prevention assembly for elementary and middle school students, that combines anti-bullying, positivity and encouragement, and music. In October of 2013, Sider began her “Nobody Has The Power To Ruin Your Day” Tour, and in the 2013-2014 academic year, she toured 250 schools throughout the states of California, Florida, and Texas, and visited with over 100,000 students. Sider continues to speak and sing to students countrywide.
