ManaBus[1] is a future New Zealand long distance coach operator.[2] Owned by Brian Souter's Highland Global Transport,[3] it will commence operating on the North Island on 21 November 2014.

History

ManaBus will commence operating express coach services on the North Island of New Zealand on 21 November 2014.[4] Advertised fares start at $1 (plus $1 booking fee), using a yield management model as employed by Megabus, PolskiBus and Onnibus.[5][6][7] The company plans to operate the "newest and largest coaches in New Zealand."[8]

Services

ManaBus will commence operating on 21 November 2014 with one route from Auckland to Wellington. On 5 December 2014, a second service will commence between Auckland and Tauranga. On 19 December 2014, a further three services will commence between Whangarei and Hamilton, Whangarei and Rotorua, and Auckland and Hamilton.[9]

Corporate strategy

ManaBus.com intends to operate at a high load factor using yield management pricing and large double decker buses to keep capital cost per seat and fuel burn per seat at low levels.[10] Founder Sir Brian Souter believes that bus journeys of 5 to 6 hours can compete with air travel.[10]

Fleet

ManaBus will commence with a fleet of Kiwi Bus Builders bodied Volvo B11Rs.[4]
