The Golden Disk Awards (Korean골든 디스크 어워드) is an awards show founded in 1986 that is presented annually by the Music Industry Association of Korea for outstanding achievements in the music industry in South Korea.[1] It is dubbed as the Korean Grammy Awards.

Trophy

The trophy is called "Statue of a Woman Playing a Reed Instrument" (Template:Lang-ko) that was designed by professor Kim Soo-Hyun (Korean김수현).[2]

Categories

Currently there are seven awards which are not restricted by genre, and three awards which are each in hip hop, rock, trot.

  • Grand Prize in Album Releasing (Disk Daesang), is awarded to the performer of the best of the best full-length album, mini-album (extended play) from the "Records of the Year".
  • Grand Prize in Digital Releasing (Digital Daesang), is awarded to the performer of the best of the best single (which was digital released), from the "Records of the Year in Digital Releasing".
  • Records of the Year are awarded to the performers of best full-length albums, mini-albums (extended plays) of the year.
  • Records of the Year in Digital Releasing are awarded to the performers of best singles of the year (which was digital released).
  • Record Producer of the Year is awarded to a record producer of the year.
  • Hip Hop Record of the Year is awarded to the performer of the hip hop album of the year.
  • Rock Record of the Year is awarded to the performer of the rock album of the year.
  • Pop Record of the Year is awarded to the performer of the pop album of the year.
  • Trot Record of the Year is awarded to the performer of the trot album of the year.
  • Popularity Awards of the Year are awarded to the performers who gained popularity of the year.
  • Newcomer Awards of the Year are awarded to the newcomer performers of the year.
  • Special Award is awarded to the performer or the production team who gained popularity or outstanding achievement in miscellaneous topics of Korean music industry.
  • Popular M/V of the Year are awarded to the Music Video who gained popularity of the year.

  • The current holder who has won the most awards is Super Junior (16 times), Girls' Generation (11 times) including Taeyeon's solo awarding in 2008, Shinhwa, SHINee, CNBLUE (9 times each), and BEAST (8 times).
