Leman Street police station
Would it be right to say that the series is centred around Leman Street police station? Sdoerr (talk) 23:47, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- I have not heard it mentioned by name yet but a street plate is shown. Long Susan's brothel where Jackson lives in Tenter Street exists, The Brown bear pub existed, the Jews Orphan Ayslum existed. They must have used this terrific site for research...http://www.stgite.org.uk/goodmansfields.html REVUpminster (talk) 13:10, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
- The Jews' Orphanage still exists. IIRC It's now called Norwood and is a charity widely supported by London businesses. DavidFarmbrough (talk) 17:34, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
I used to live near there and the police station would not have been so close to the end of the road, I think at all times in Leman Street's history, coming out of the police station and turning right one would have seen all the way to the railway arch not The Bell pub as in the programme. 86.173.98.24 (talk) 23:38, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
The Weight of One Man's Heart - Anglo-Egyptian War
I believe the references were to the Mahdist War, as the Colonel mentions Khartoum, rather than the Egyptian campaign as mentioned in the article's episode summary. Grsz 11 16:17, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
- I would expect so, as he mentions General Gordon, who was at the Siege of Khartoum. DavidFarmbrough (talk) 17:31, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
Chop Shops
Someone added "Chop Shops" back to the rather colourful description of London' East End in the article. I don't think they had them then, they are a modern phenomenon. If this means something other than a place where motor cars are "cut and shut" then can an explanation or link please be put in? DavidFarmbrough (talk) 17:33, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- Please read BBC press release from where the word Chop Shops was taken as it can be cited. http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/ripperstreet/ REVUpminster (talk) 17:52, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- Perhaps they meant chophouses? It may not be citeable by the BBC, but it has the advantage of being a recognised term used in London of the Ripper era. 122.106.177.188 (talk) 05:58, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

"Slang" section
Several words included in the list are not slang - e.g. catamite, sodomite, filcher, leucotomy. Perhaps a change in the heading? 122.106.177.188 (talk) 06:10, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
This section should be removed completely as the slang words have nothing to do with the series and many aren't even slang as the user above points out.TheMathemagician (talk) 21:14, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
