Intimate Cabaret was a British television programme which aired from 1937 to 1939 on the BBC. It was a variety programme. For example, the episode telecast 4 January 1938 featured Frederic Harris (conjuror), La Marques (dancer), Bennett and Williams (comedians), and Trudi Binar (in songs),[1] while the 14 February 1938 episode featured Stanley Holloway, The Fayre Four, and juggler Donald Stuart.[2] None of the episodes still exist, as they aired live, and methods to record live television did not exist until late 1947, and were used rarely by the BBC until around 1953-1955. The earliest surviving recording of a BBC television variety show is a 6-minute fragment from the 1947 special Variety in Sepia.
