The plateau tiger salamander or Mexican tiger salamander (Ambystoma velasci) is a species of mole salamander in the Ambystomatidae family. It is found in Mexico and possibly the United States. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, temperate grassland, subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland, rivers, freshwater lakes, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, pastureland, and ponds. It is threatened by habitat loss.
