"Uma Thurman" is a song by American rock band Fall Out Boy. It was released digitally on January 12, 2015 as the fifth[2] digital track preceding American Beauty/American Psycho (2015) as part of the buildup to the album. The song will be released to modern rock radio as the album's third single (second in the U.S.) on January 27, 2015.[3] It debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes chart upon its digital release.[4] The official remix was released on January 23, 2015 featuring Wiz Khalifa.
Music
The song prominently samples the TV show The Munsters's theme song, taking a guitar riff and brass.[5] Its title is a reference to American actress Uma Thurman dancing with John Travolta in an iconic scene of the film Pulp Fiction.[6][5] She gave permission for Fall Out Boy to use her name.[7][8] The track also incorporates "jittery piano chords"[6] and "clapping drums", along with bursts of soulful hooks like "I can move mountains, I can work a miracle".[9]

Critical reception
The song has received universal critical acclaim, with praise for the sample of the theme song from The Munsters and Patrick Stump's vocal ability. Billboard called it the "best yet" from the new album,[5] and MTV hailed it as "rad".[6] Music Times was also positive of the "funky" song, writing that the rhythm and bassline are "what really shine" and feeling that the "steady and funky bassline carries the melody seamlessly through the track."[11] It also felt that vocalist Patrick Stump's vocal melody played off well with the music.[11] In a positive review, Exclaim! noted that the vocals were "vaguely aggressive".[12] Idolator wrote that the The Munster sample added a 60s surf-rock vibe to the "impossibly catchy" song.[1]
Commercial performance
"Uma Thurman" debuted at No. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 6 on the Rock Songs chart on the strength of 46,000 first week downloads as reported by Billboard.[13] It was the band's ninth top 15 Rock Songs charting in the US since the chart began in 2009.[14] "Uma Thurman" achieved similar placements in the UK and Canada, reaching No. 71[15] and No. 73 respectively.
