German politician. Born June 29, 1955 in Bad Mergentheim (Baden-Württemberg). Chairman of 'Bündnis 90/Die Grünen', the german Green Party from June 2000 till 2002.

He was born June 29, 1955 in Bad Mergentheim (Baden-Württemberg) and grew up in Memmingen (Bayern). 1974 he finished school the high school in Memmingen with Abitur, and studied german and philosophy in München and Tübingen. 1980 he got the Magister degree with focus on Linguistics in Tübingen.

He was one of the founding members of the German Green Party in 1980, and was member of the parlament of Baden-Württemberg from 1984 to 1988 and again from 1992 to 2000.
