The 2004-05 season of the European UEFA Champions League football club tournament was won by Liverpool in a dramatic final against A.C. Milan . 3-0 down at half-time, Liverpool scored three goals in seven second half minutes to force extra time. Goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek performed a memorable double save, a header and a point-blank shot from Andriy Shevchenko in the final minutes, and went on to save two penalties as his team won the cup on penalties . Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard , was named UEFA's Most Valuable Player for his key role in the final and throughout the Champions League season.
As it was their fifth victory in the competition, Liverpool kept the cup and received the UEFA badge of honour . A new trophy was made for the 2005-06 season.
