I've just noticed that despite having a little section which describes the music, and it's intentions, the lyrics aren't available on the site. Apologies for adding the words here, but I've just typed them up and I'm unsure of whether it would untidy to copy them into the Dad's Army main information page ... or whether making a seperate lyrics page entirely would be the way everyone would want it. I thought I would leave the decision to those who have been doing longer than I have :-) |

Welcome to WikiProject Dad's Army talk page. If you have any problems please discuss them here and we will reply with the soultions.
Template
I'm afraid I don't know how to create a template, but what about this as a possible tag to put on related talk pages? I based it on the Doctor Who project template. Bob 12:30, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Or there is this one with the colour photo:
Template
Hello, I think I've worked out how to make it into a template. I used the black and white picture from the project page, as I thought it looked better:
I have put it on the main Dad's Army talkpage, but feel free to change it. Bob 12:35, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Looks good. Tim! 20:24, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Featured article
Who thinks that I should put the Dad's Army page up for a featured article? Mollsmolyneux 17:57, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- I wouldn't just yet - I myself wondered about FA status at one point, because it is a very good article, but I'm afraid at the moment it would not pass due to the lack of footnotes - we'll have to try and put some in at some point. You could always nominate it as a good article for the time being, or perhaps put it up for peer review. Bob 19:00, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's now a good article - next stop, featured! Bob 16:33, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Other templates
This is a possible design for a template. If you wish to see a similar examples, see the following:
- Template:Green Wing
- Template:Futurama
- Template:HitchhikerBooks (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

Similar proposed wikiprojects
Hello, I just wanted to congratulate you - you've done amazingly well in theis project. I'm trying to set up two wikiprojects of a similar nature, that of Fawlty Towers, and Father Ted, if you are interested in becoming a part of either of these projects (so far I haven't enough people interested to go further with the projects) please sign your name on the Wikipedia:Wikiproject/List of proposed projects page...(both are towards the bottom of the page)... I'm trying to advertise as much as possible! Thanks Foxearth 04:55, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Peer review
I have now added some references for the article, and was wondering whether it might be useful to submit it for Peer Review. I don't think it is featured article standard, yet, but it might give a few ideas of sections/information to add, etc. Bob 01:11, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have listed it for peer review, just to see what the general consensus is. The page can be found at Wikipedia:Peer review/Dad's Army. Bob 12:51, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Key articles for Wikipedia 1.0
Hello! We at the Work via WikiProjects team for Wikipedia 1.0 would like you to identify the "key articles" from your project that should be included in offline releases of Wikipedia based on their importance, regardless of quality. We will use that information to assess which articles should be nominated for Version 1.0 (not yet open) and later versions. Hopefully it will also help you identify which articles are the most important for the project to work on. As well, please add to your Arts WikiProject article table any articles of quality articles|high quality]]. If you are interested in developing a worklist such as this one for your WikiProject, or having a bot generate a worklist automatically for you, please contact us. Please feel free to post your suggestions right here. Thanks! Walkerma 06:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
To Do List
Hi, just a few comments about the to-do list;
- I'm just wondering whether splitting the characters section off is a good idea or not, because at the moment the situation section is quite short and relies on the individual character descriptions to add to this.
- One thing I've been meaning to do is write a page for the Dad's Army film, so perhaps you could propose pages for that and the stage show.
- A "casting" section might also be useful, perhaps. Bob 12:18, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
A big push
Thankyou for all our help so far and all your help in the future, but we need to soon create all the pages for the TV episodes and the radio episodes. We need to do this quickly people and thats why i'm setting a deadline for the end of july for the TV episodes (they don't need plots, just a basic page layout with an info box) and a deadline for the end of August for the radio episodes (once again they don't need plots, just a basic page layout with an info box). This will provide us with lots of new projects to start and to finish. Come on people, lets make the first of may big pushes. Mollsmolyneux 22:25, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- Is there a reason for this? I think it may be a bit ambitious to do the radio episodes, simply because they are very similar to the TV episodes anyway, and there is less information available - best to stick to the TV ones, I would imagine. Bob 09:44, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Very similar, but not the same Mollsmolyneux 10:00, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
I realise they are not the same, but maybe it would be better to have the radio episode information on the same page as the TV episodes and then just add what the main differences were, so, for example, it could be mentioned that in The Captain's Car radio episode, at the end the car is destroyed, rather than Hodges getting paint on his face in the TV version. Then it would avoid plot/page duplication and it would perhaps be quite interesting to compare what the main differences were.
- I think Bob probably has a point: compare The Cricket Match to The Test, the plot is almost identical. Tim! 19:01, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Or if the plot is very different (Everybody's Trucking and A Jumbo Sized Problem, for example) we could place a second for the radio version. However I believe that one radio episode deserves a seperate page (Present Arms) as it is a merger of two stories and will have a plot that it is different from Shooting Pains and Battle of the Giants. --Mollsmolyneux 19:10, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that would be absolutely fine if the plot is significantly different - I was just a bit concerned that we would spend ages doing radio plots that are almost identical to their TV namesakes, and that it would be easier to name the differences - perhaps we could do redirects for those with different names, or wikilinks to the radio sections on the TV pages. Bob 19:38, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I suppose the best thing would be to do all the TV episodes first and then have a look at the radio ones and decide then. Tim! 20:33, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Categorisation work
Hi. I've done some refactoring work on your Project's categories and templates today (along with several other WikiProjects). I'm confident you'll find that the new organisation a big improvement. For more information and a rationale please see what I've written at Wikipedia:WikiProject/Best_practices#Categorisation or drop me a line on my talk page.
If you're not yet assessing articles for Wikipedia 1.0 and using Mathbot, you might also find Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Index of subjects and it's talk page very useful. --kingboyk 17:21, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
I made a character infobo template based on the used for Doctor Who characters. So far I've only added it to Captain Mainwaring. I wonder what suggestions people have for it, like what colours it should be. Tim! 19:52, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia 1.0
I have decided on some articles for Wikipedia 1.0, and I want your opinions. They are, in priority order:
- The Dad's Army main page
- List of Dad's Army episodes
- List of Dad's Army radio episodes
- List of characters in Dad's Army
- Yup, those pages are definitely the most important, although maybe the list of characters should come before the episodes and radio episodes, as they offer important character information about the situation of the series. Thus, I think my suggestion would be:
- The Dad's Army main page
- List of characters in Dad's Army
- List of Dad's Army episodes
- List of Dad's Army radio episodes
- What do you think? Bob 11:55, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Better ranking --Mollsmolyneux 18:49, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
It Sticks Out Half a Mile
What about a WikiProject It Sticks Out Half a Mile? We can improve the main page, create a page for each episode and prehaps create a detailed list of characters. --Mollsmolyneux 19:54, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Who do you think you are kiddin’ Mr. Hitler?
If you think we’re on the run
We are the boys who will stop your little game
We are the boys who will make you think again
Coz, who do you think you are kiddin’ Mr. Hitler?
If you think old England’s done
Mr Brown goes off to town on the A21
But he comes home each evenin’ and he’s ready with his gun
So, who do you think you are kiddin’ Mr. Hitler?
If you think old England’s done
