The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar | |
Well, I've run into more than once while doing my anti-vandalism rounds, and I think it's time you got something out of it, even if its just a few pixels on your screen. Here is the anti-vandalism barnstar, awarded to those who fight vandalism and help keep Wikipedia clean. You are a hero of Wikipedia, truly, and maybe someday everyone will name their children after you... oh, what am I saying? Here... just take this barnstar in the meantime! --I am k6ka Talk to me! Curious
Hello Kylie, I noticed you have been fixing this type of errors. How do you find such file errors? Do you use some kind of script? Thanks, Jim Carter (from public cyber) 11:13, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Jim I patrol Category:Articles with missing files - it throws up junk images like this, as well as: hot-linking attempts; local path usages; deleted images not caught by the bots; spelling/typo fixes in file names; and of course plain old vandalism missed by other means. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 11:21, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Hey Kylie thanks for your edits. You don't have to fix them all yourself (you can just notify me). Btw I'm copying some stuff off of your user page...hope you don't mind ;) Saadkhan12345 (talk) 11:40, 4 December 2014 (UTC) |
- Hi Saadkhan12345 thanks. I assume your referring to the edits on the Pakistan location stubs... I was just fixing up ones as I came upon them as I worked on clearing Category:Articles with missing files. Looks like about 100 left so they should all be done in the next couple of days. And copy away, glad you found something worth copying :) — Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 12:53, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

A small request
Hello there! You might remember having deleted the Id album cover by Siddharta link, since the image is not yet uploaded. And that's because I cannot yet upload pics. xD So I have a small request: I ask you to find the picture and upload it instead. I am capable of uploading on the Slovenian wikipedia, but not here, and the lack of an image on an album page unnerves me. I can wait till I can upload, but I would much rather you upload it. :) You can find it on the official site. If you choose not to do this, I will tell Putin to attack the USA with nukes. (The previous sentence was a joke. (Or was it?)) Thanks. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marmio (talk • contribs) 13:20, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Marmio, I'm busy at work so I can't at the moment but I may have a look later. However the conditions for being able to upload are to be an autoconfirmed account (meaning that the account must be at least four days old, and the user must have made at least ten edits) - so it looks like your only one edit away from it. As I said, I'll try to have a look later after work if you haven't been able to sort for yourself by then. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 13:32, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Help with the pic?
So what I was trying to do was to add to Max Bernhard Weinstein the pic that has been added to the German Wikipedia page de:Max Bernhard Weinstein. The German version is claimed there to have been taken in 1910, so ought not be copyrighted anywhere. Can you help? Blessings!! DeistCosmos (talk) 00:40, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi DeistCosmos Copyright is a difficult area and is much more heavily defended on English wikipedia than on some of the other language wikis. The image [1] on the German wiki still has a warning on it that suggests someone could challenge it. As the original source also has a copyright statement on its even more unclear. I'd suggest looking for an image copyright 'expert' maybe at the Commons Village_pump/Copyright section. I'm busy at work at the moment so can't really help further sorry. KylieTastic (talk) 10:24, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi DeistCosmos, the thread over on commons [2] hasn't really helped much! It appears their are lots willing to comment on the copyright of images uploaded, but not so many to help before. I guess you can either go for the {{PD-anon-1923}} that Be..anyone half suggested - and I thought would be the best option as well - and then see if it's challenged, or just upload to English wikipedia as "Fair Use" - Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 15:51, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Hunac Keel edit
Hi. Why did You change the name of the cenote at the Hunac Ceel site? If You want to use the indigenous name, then why not Chen Ku? Kdammers (talk)
- Hi Kdammers, all I did was revert the IP edit that "Just broke the image" as my edit summary noted. File:Cenote Sagrado en Chichén Itzá.jpg is not a valid image unlike File:Cenote Xtoloc en Chichén Itzá.jpg. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 09:26, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi. How can the label on the image be changed? I went to Wikimedia, but I couldn't see any buttons for editing labels.Kdammers (talk) 04:29, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Kdammers, you can change the label shown in the article by editing the text after the | 'pipe' delimiter after the file name. i.e. [[File:Cenote Sagrado en Chichén Itzá.jpg|Some other label]]. Or if you use the beta visual editor I'm not sure but I think you just click on the image. If you actually mean how to you get the file renamed then on wikimedia commons is fairly easy... On the full image page here - there should be a "More" drop down top right next to the search. Click on that and you should have a 'Move' option - this allows you to submit a rename request. Hope that helps - Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 10:07, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
You have no right!
I had edited the article "Tahlyia Street" because of offensive pictures in the gallery. I am a Saudi and demand that you not touch that article! aboditheking (----) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aboditheking (talk • contribs) 15:24, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Aboditheking, firstly I do have the right - maybe you should read Wikipedia:Introduction to understand how wikipedia works. Secondly your first edit [3] was not to remove 'offensive pictures' but what appeared to be a 'joke' comment. Your second edit [4] was fine - looks like just removing un-sourced encyclopaedic material. Your third edit [5] was not just removing pictures but also the categories, the co-ordiates, and see also section. You failed to mention a reason for the removal, and you still haven't given any reason why these would be offensive? Anyway, your offence is not a valid reason fro content removal - see Wikipedia:Offensive - Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 15:33, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Please semi protect pages
Respected Maam, I want you tell that please tell a good edittor to take care of articles bollywood actors such as Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal,Sushant Singh Rajput and Aditya Roy Kapoor. I also want to tell you that please semi protect these articles from other ip addresses including mine also. The semi protection on these articles should be indefinitely. Please reply me back on this issue. From:117.197.159.97 (talk) 16:36, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, I can see no reason why those articles should be protected apart from the deliberate vandalism done today. If you care about the articles you should sign up for an account and put them on your own watchlist and improve them yourself. If they are validly under a high level of IP vandalism you could then request protection yourself - see Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 16:48, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Respected Maam, I want to suggest some good editors for the above mentioned articles who edit these pages of bollywood actors. User:IndianBio,User:Krimuk90, User:Shivamsetu, User:Tamravidhir. I want you to contact these editors to improve and maintain the above articles because you are an administrator you can apply full authority on them. Why i am not making any account improving these articles because first of all my english is little weak and second i dont understand how edit with various codes such when to apply a infobox or how be in proper alignment or insert valid references and also i do not know which are valid references. Please contact them it's a humble request from me because i want these articles should be properly maintained and not become vandalize by any ip adderess or a new user. Please reply me back on this issue. From:117.197.159.5 (talk)
- * Hi, I understand your reason for not creating an account and respect that you don't want to do something you feel you don't have the skills for. However you can learn by doing small changes and using the 'preview' to make sure the edit does what you intended. However I understand if you choose not to. If you think those editors are reliable editors on these subjects then I suggest that instead of asking me to do it for you, that you just send each a message on there talk pages pointing out your concern for these articles. As I have no knowledge regarding bollywood actors I do not wish to get involved beyond defending articles from vandalism. I'm sure each of the editors would be happy to here that someone that judges them to be a good and trustworthy editor. If interested they could then talk to you about any concerns you had with the acticles. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 10:25, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Hello
Hello KylieTastic! Hope all is well. I'm having issues with a user, well ive been working on improving Dignity (album) page, starting with the singles section. I've done extensive research on it, Ive gone to the conclusing that the single Play with Fire was release to radio, as a single after With Love. I know the song was release first in 2006, but its form of a single (radio remix) was release after. I've made edits and have included sources but they have been reverted by User:Status. Ive discussed them with him, but to no avail. :( User talk:Status shows our discussion, I also started a second discussion not directly focusing on the page but the edit-warring between us; user delete it and caption it with,..."(Undid revision 638018757 by Ifiwere (talk) LMFAO get the fuck off my talk)".
- First Discussion:
Hello,... Play with Fire was not send to radio, the only reference stated is an article but no "official" link to show its radio release (i.e. With Love, Stranger, references showcase this. The only thing that Play with fire shows is a digital release (remix) in May 2007, right after With Love; which will make sense because the Richard version remix was promoted for u.s. club/dance. So,... basically if you want to argue it's release as a single, it would have been the second single & if you argue that the video was released before, its not a valid point because its a common practice among musicians. I look forward to working with you, Ifiwere (talk) 12:14, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Ifiwere: Nope. Get outta here with your WP:OR. I saw your sandbox, you even think "Little Voice" (which was released as a CD single in two countries) and "Any Other Day" (which was sent to radio in the US as well) are promo singles. I provided sources for its single release, you did not provide any for a promo release. — Status (talk · contribs) 12:45, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Please don't be rude ;) my sandbox, I'm researching additional references so that I can add the songs to the singles table :). so, anyways watching the Dignity page and reversing every edit doesn't really solve anything :( now that I've looked at Play with fire's digital link and yes it was released on may 2014, after With Love making it the official second second. I don't understand why you argue that? I will advise you to research and lookup a VALID reference of the "radio add". maybe? http://fmqb.com/home.asp if With Love and Stranger is here, so should Play with Fire! Right?! Right!? I Think ive made my point. Thanks for your contributions though Ifiwere (talk) 13:16, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Ifiwere: Again, MTV is a more than a valid source for this information. FMQB is not the be all end all of sources for radio adds. Besides, there is a FMQB source for "Any Other Day" being sent to radio, but it's still a promotional single according to you? The song actually charted on the dance charts in 2006, and not in 2007 when the remix was digitally released. I also provided you an additional source from MTV calling "Play with Fire" the first single (with "With Love" being the second, and "Stranger" being the third). You've provided no sources of it being a promotional single (other than the fact that it was also referred to as a "teaser", but official singles can be teasers too), or any sources to contradict the fact that it was sent to radio. There's nothing more to discuss here. — Status (talk · contribs) 16:13, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, Boy... not again, my sandbox has nothing to do with any official Wikipedia pages. I have provided sources confirming with love was the lead single. it doesn't matter when a song has charted, you know some songs chart without being released or when they are released as promotional singles. I would imagine that someone like you, who constantly is watching over pages would know that. I'm not here to argue nor to be rude but to discuss ways to improve Wikipedia pages; but as many Hilary Duff pages show, you don't let anyone contribute. I'm not arguing that PWF was never released, because obviously it was! BUT no radio dates where released until 2007! (in 2006 it was released for promo)

- @Ifiwere: It has nothing to do with your sandbox; it has to do with you saying FMQB is the be all end all of sources for radio adds when you ignore it as a source yourself in other cases. I asked you to provide a reference stating that "Play with Fire" was a promo single or that it wasn't sent to radio as planned. I don't care what press releases have to say, and MTV has called both "With Love" and "Play with Fire" first singles. The Billboard review is from November 2006. "With Love" was marketed as the lead single from the album, but that doesn't change the fact that "Play with Fire" was released first. Similarly, Metamorphosis was marketed was her debut album, but that doesn't change the fact that Santa Claus Lane was her debut album. — Status (talk · contribs) 02:57, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- that's the problem Staus, you are taking control of the page, by you stating "I asked you..." and "I don't care". (a la, Wiki:OA. I've provide sources, where it's stated with love was the lead single. (NOT release first BUT the first radio single) I've never said FMQB was the end of all sources, but you have not provide a valid reference to provide a radio release for play with fire, period. The real question is was Play with Fire release as a single or for promotional reasons? at this time I don't have sources to provide the latter, but what I do have (and have provided) is a remix release date. What i'm going to do, is provide refrences and change the single release dates on dignity and for the mean time put play with fire as the second single, (until we get to conclusion if it was release or not). hope to work with you on the future, improving the article! :) Ifiwere (talk) 20:00, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

- Second Discussion:
Hello, I notice that you reverted my contribution to Dignity. I provided many sources and I added four references to the page, of course any additional contributions of grammar, sentencing, punctuation ect., is happily accepted! If any of my previous edits where reverted, I now certainly understand why, I couldn't provided reverences/sources. I've tried discussing it with you, but it's come to no resort, You have treated the page as your own, asking for references and sources, I've provided them. rather than working together, you have resorted to reverting constantly without providing sources and references. I'm not hear to attack or be attack, just simply help out. I've learned so much since the few years I've been here, and have lots to learn! with that being said I think we all need some refreshing of the guidelines. WP:DR. I have simply reverted, because my hard liable work is being compromise. One thing that I am proud on myself is that ive not reverted, just cause I don't agree, nor im I stuck on my own ideas/believe (like my opinion of Play with Fire and if it's a promotional single; I've not provided sources yet so I'm not gonna make that edit again, not yet at least... im still researching :)Hope you understand that reverting does not solve anything nor does it meet the guidelines WP:RV, WP:GF, WP:OWN. I genuinely hope You and I can work together :) maybe start building up the album and singles pages from start in our own sandboxes and discussing them. Wikipedia:Dispute resolution anyways, well wishes and happy holidays! Ifiwere (talk) 08:33, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
I don't know what to do, If you have the chance to look through my sources/refrences. I've come here ask you for your honest opinion, I know you are an experienced user and would like your advice. Thank You Ifiwere (talk) 08:09, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Ifiwere sorry to hear that you've found yourself in a conflict and don't know what to do, and certainly edit comments such as "LMFAO get the fuck off my talk" are not what is expected from any user, and certainly not from such a seasoned editor as Status. However, I'm tied up with a lot of work this week so I may not find time to look at the details, plus its not a subject I know any details about. So sorry I don't know when I might find any time, so for now all I can say is more general advise... Firstly take it to the article talk page, that way others can join in rather than comments across multiple user talk pages. Secondly look for other editors who appear to have an interest/knowledge about Hilary Duff and ask them for an opinion. Also Wikipedia:Dispute resolution may have some advise on ways to move forward. All the best KylieTastic (talk) 11:09, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Sure I was wrong
Look her Kyletastic I am a new user here so sorry for my first comment, Please accept my apology secondly I have read the "offensive" terms and polices and I have a reason because the pictures were offensive not from religious issues but from the defamation of the Saudi community, Sure there are people like this but its like portraying Americans as beer bellies or some thing like that. so what I am asking from you is can you remove the pictures?
aboditheking ps: the "champs elesyee" comment was a "joke" as you call it and it was my first try to edit thanks (----) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.105.89.40 (talk) 14:00, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Aboditheking, I hadn't actually opened the pictures to look closely and although I'm not sure they would make people think lesser of the majority of the Saudi community, some of them do not really appear to be on topic. The middle three don't really do much to convey anything about the street - they are more for football and car fans. As such it would seam reasonable to remove them. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 15:16, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

VANDAL NEEDS BLOCKING
You posted a LAST WARNING template on vandal User_talk:188.29.164.204. This user just blanked the entire administrator's noticeboard[6] with a kiss-my-ass message. Just as you ask on your User page I come here to let you know you made a mistake when reverting picture insertion in Hank Plante. Hel ok sael
Regarding the information on Wikepedia - heil ok sael. This is from an Old Norse greeting Hel ok sæl, which is still used on the west coast of Norway and in the North of Norway.
I felt that the information regarding an unsuccessful attempt of a political party to reintroduce the greeting is irrelevant to this page.
I can see absolutely no reason for this to be mentioned twice in a small article relating to this greeting. I believe that if used at all, it should be linked to the political party's side, and not as the main part of a Wikepedia page about the greeting.
Regarding the statement that this greeting is used by police or party members, no Norwegian policemen I know have heard of this.
It seems that this page is not about the Old Norse greeting and the fact that it is still used in Norway today, but rather a page with a political and Nazi agenda. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.149.206.153 (talk) 17:39, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi 90.149.206.153, I can see your point and the information is unsourced anyway. Just removing lumps of content without explaining why in the edit summary is going to look like vandalism. As you say there is no reason for two mentions, I would suggest leaving in the sentence in the lead, but removing the National socialism section. As for the second change, again both the original and your change are unsourced - all I could find for "unsǣle" is [7] which suggests wicked. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 17:53, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback and changes Kylie.
Maybe there should be a Wikepedia page about the Old Norse greeting Hel ok sæl, and its meaning, with a link to the Heil ok sael Wikepedia page.
Regarding scources as to the meaning of unsǣle, as sæl means happy, logic would suggest that unsǣle would mean unhappy. The problem with translations from the last century, which are still used as reference, is that they were created by people of religious ties, or political ties, and the translations were influenced by their beliefs.
Just as pagan has been used as a negative word, its original meaning was "region delimited by markers", then "of or relating to the countryside", "country dweller" and "villager". (according to Wikepedia) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.149.206.153 (talk) 20:06, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi 90.149.206.153, its up to you but creating a separate page would probably get challenged with a merge unless their is lots of information/references for the "Old Norse greeting". I would suggest just adding any information to the existing page. It may be logical that if sæl in Norse was happy unsǣle would mean unhappy in Norse, but Old English it could easily have been changed, English has a history of taking words and changing the meaning, especially as you say that people changed words for religious and/or political reasons. However although I find linguistics interesting its not an area I have much knowledge in - but in the end its sources that count on wikipedia. All the best KylieTastic (talk) 21:18, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks KylieTastic. I appreciate the help and advice. Hel ok sæl. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.149.206.153 (talk) 22:13, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Your Mars stuff
Kylie, please take down your Water on Mars article. The information in it is largely incorrect. You should really study the history of Mars and let it sink in for a few years, before you start writing about it, thank you.

- Hi, no article of wikipedia belongs to anyone, and I've have no input to Water on Mars other than to revert a vandal. Maybe you should learn about wikipedia before you start commenting on it? Bring up any issues on the article talk page. KylieTastic (talk) 14:45, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. ;-))
Dear 'KylieTastic',
Thank you very much for repairing that file name in the link I had mistakenly broken as part of my current drive of serially correcting all occurrences of the name 'hurdy-gurdy' (when it's misspelt without the hyphen). After doing a few dozens of these, one ends up running the risk of ignoring the context of the word being corrected, which clearly happened in this case.
Therefore, I am very grateful to you for catching me out and fixing my unintended error, but please also accept my apologies for causing you unnecessary work, especially since you're supposed to be on a wikibreak.
In any case, get well soon and thanks once again for your helpful assistance.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk) 17:12, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Pdebee - no worries, happens to us all. Not sure why I noticed and decided to look at hurdy-gurdy amongst all the broken images building up on Category:Articles with missing files, but I did and easy fix. Glad to help. KylieTastic (talk) 17:21, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Yes! I'm sorry, it's a lot faster to add ndashes using automatic replacement. I saw you corrected many mistakes, thanks! I was planning to check for those a little later. --Damián A. Fernández Beanato (talk) 22:31, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Image deletion in "Safavid Dynasty"
I have been working on the Safavid Dynasty article for a week now. In the course of it I added two image files from Wiki Commons, neither of which you have deleted. However, in the course of adding these (which are copyright free, IMHO), I may have moved from one place in the article to another this file. (I know I at least used the file as a model for importing my two images]:
I did not originally upload the iumage on either Wikicommons or the Safavid Dynasty article, and I note that it was there before I started editing the article. (I say this to point out that it was not a recent addition.)
Yesterday you deleted the image on the ground that it was not properly uploaded (or at least that's how I understood your comment). I am not very familiar with how to properly upload images to wikipedia (I mainly edit text) and I don't know what was wrong with that image (which is from wikicommons), although I may have caused the problem by moving it in the text.
I'd appreciate if you could look at your edit and tell me if I am responsible for your deletion because I improperly "moved" it.
In any event, IMO, there is nothing wrong with the image. It is copyright free as something that was created over 500 years ago, it is a useful illustration and is from wikicommons.
Many thanks. AnthroMimus (talk) 16:39, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
(edited to add sig, which I always forget until I hit save)
- Hi AnthroMimus thanks for letting me know about this. I looked again and found I had missed that it was actually caused by 'correcting' text in a file name from File:Shah Tahmasp and Humayun.jpeg to File:Shah Tahmāsp and Humayun.jpeg. So I've fixed it properly this time. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 16:44, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. That was undoubtedly my fault. I tried to make consistent the transliteration of Tahmasp and by using a global search, probably changed Tahmasp to Tahmāsp in the file name, when I shouldn't have. Thanks for correcting it. I guess I should be more careful with global replaces.AnthroMimus (talk) 16:49, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

- Hi Gano67 That image is on the Italian language wikipedia and can not be used directly on English wikipedia. Also as it flagged as not having valid copyright information so cannot be transferred to English wikipedia or commons. If you did take it yourself and it is your image then either upload locally on English wikipedia here or if your happy to donate it copyright free your can upload to commons here. Anti-Vandalism on Al-Naimi
No idea man. This is a shared IP address for an oilfield service company in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Dunno if the IP address rotates between computers on the network, or is just shared for all devices on the base.
About 300 people here though I think. Keep up the good work.

Black Rock Historic District editing
Hi Kylie-- I actually wrote that source document regarding the "John" Wheeler House in Black Rock. A lot of research has been done on that house since it was written back in 1978. First, Abbott Lowell Cummings of the SPNEA superintended a restoration of the house, and put to rest for all time the idea that it dated from the 18th century. It is undoubtedly a 17th-century survivor, and the only question is whether it dates from circa 1644 (which I believe, based on the historic confluences that took place in that year) or slightly later. Cummings assigned it a date of circa 1680 "to be safe," with which I am happy to concur. Secondly, a researcher by the name of Rebecca Walch has untangled the genealogy of the Wheeler family in Black Rock, which was confused by the fact that there were two individuals by the name of Thomas Wheeler operating at the same time (1640s) in this small community, and they happened to have been half-brothers. She has assigned them the names of Thomas Wheeler Sr. (the builder of the house) and Lieut. Thomas Wheeler (the builder of the fort that was constructed down the road). John Wheeler was a grandson of Thomas Sr. I felt the information contained in this Wikipedia page was erroneous and needed to be corrected. As the consultant who prepared both local and National Register nominations for the district, and the Historian of the City of Bridgeport from 1990 to 2004, I felt I was the man to undertake this task. --Charles Brilvitch
- Hi Charles, thanks for the reply. Is this change of information on any web site, as the trouble is everything here has to be verifiable - which is a great principle until you get situations like this with an old official source being found to be wrong but not corrected. Assuming that this new research is not available to be referenced I have removed the contentious words - aka John and the date. However anyone following the source link or looking up themselves will still find the old data. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 18:35, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Do you work for Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.85.243.25 (talk) 00:15, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hi 67.85.243.25, No we are all random volunteers around here. Some volunteer to help in a positive way.... some choose just to vandalise. Wikipedia works on the principle that the number of people that wont to improve are way more than those that have nothing better to do with their life's but be negative.
