Basketball Wives LA is the Los Angeles based spin-off of Basketball Wives that premiered August 29, 2011, on VH1.[1] It follows the lives of a group of women who have all been somehow romantically linked to professional basketball players.

Production

Basketball Wives LA was revealed on June 20, 2011, with Kimsha Artest, Gloria Govan, Laura Govan, Jackie Christie and Imani Showalter as the cast.[2] Malaysia Pargo and Draya Michele were announced as part of the cast in the series' July 2011 press release.[3] Kimsha Artest stopped showing up for filming because she did not agree with the "shenanigans and drama", which explains why she was not featured in more than one episode.[4] Tanya Williams was to be the eighth official "wife" but left the series after two episodes.[4] The series premiered on August 29, 2011, to 1.81 million viewers.[5] The second season debuted on September 10, 2012,[6] with the premiere attracting 1.82 million viewers.[7] Imani Showalter did not return because she felt that reality television wasn't for her, and she moved back to New York.[8] Brooke Bailey joined as a main cast member, with Adiz "Bambi" Benson joining in a recurring role. Creator of the series, Shaunie O'Neal, announced that the series would be receiving a major update for the third season.[9] Filming began in August 2013, with new members added to the mix.[9] Gloria Govan Barnes and her sister Lauara Govan confirmed their exit with their own series possibly in the works.[10] Brooke Bailey confirmed via Twitter that she would also not return.[11] Season 3 premiered on February 17, 2014, with Brittish Williams, Brandi Maxiell, and Sundy Carter joining the cast.[12] The third season premiere acquired 1.95 million viewers and a 1.0 in the adults 18-49 rating demographic.[13] Basketball Wives: LA has been renewed for Season 4, filming began in November 2014. Season 4 is set to premiere July 6th 2015, with Shaunie O'Neal formerly of Basketball Wives, Meghan James formerly of Bad Girls Club, Partice Curry, and Angel Brinks joining the cast after the firing of Sundy Carter and Brittish Williams[14]
