Route 153 was introduced on 2 June 1984 between [[Archway tube station|Archway]] and [[Angel, London|Angel]].
Route 153 commenced operating on 2 June 1984 between [[Archway tube station|Archway station]] and [[Angel, London|Angel]] via [[Holloway, London|Holloway]] using [[MCW Metrobus]]es.


On 24 November 1984, the route was extended from Angel to [[Tottenham Court Road tube station|Tottenham Court Road]] via [[London Buses route 19|route 19]]. On 4 April 1987, the extension between Tottenham Court Road and Angel was withdrawn. On the same date, the route converted to Minibus operation and transferred to [[London Country North West]]'s [[Coppetts Wood]] garage. On 26 June 1988, the route was transferred to [[London Regional Transport|London Buses]]' Victoria Basement garage.

Upon being re-tendered, the route passed to [[HCT Group#CT Plus|CT Plus]] on 3 February 2001. On the same date it was diverted from Smithfield to [[Liverpool Street bus station]]. On 3 February 2001, the route was diverted at Smithfield to terminate at [[Liverpool Street bus station|Liverpool Street]]


Due to [[Crossrail]] road closures, the route has been temporarily withdrawn between Liverpool Street and Moorgate, [[Finsbury Square]].
It has been curtailed from Liverpool Street bus station to [[Finsbury Square]] while [[Crossrail]] road closures are in place.

London Buses route 153 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Finsbury Park bus station and Finsbury Square, it is operated by CT Plus.

History

Route 153 commenced operating on 2 June 1984 between Archway station and Angel via Holloway using MCW Metrobuses.

On 24 November 1984, it was extended from Angel to Tottenham Court Road station via route 19. This section was withdrawn on 4 April 1987. It was also converted to minibus operation on the same date and its operation transferred to London Country North West's Coppetts Wood garage. On 26 June 1988, it returned to London Buses's Victoria Basement garage.

On 1 June 1992, it was diverted at Holloway from Archawy station to Finsbury Park station and extended at its southern end to Smithfield. It was transferred to Capital Citybus' Northumberland Park garage on the same date. On 8 July 1998, route 153 was included in the sale of Capital Citybus to First London.[1][2][3]
