Plot Summary
This is the story of Bengali widowed Father and cheeky Daughter who resides in Delhi. Amitabh dons the role of a 70-year-old father, Bhashkor and Deepika the role of a 30-year-old architect daughter Piku. They are both inter-dependant on each other as the dynamics of the family goes. Bhashkor is a person who doesn't have all the nuts and bolts up there and often childishly irritates his daughter, Piku with his obsession over his bowel movements for attention. Piku is the breadwinner of the family, she is a shallow, hotheaded young lady who hides her insecurity through rudeness, shows her courage through adamancy and seeks relief from exasperation through wayward sexual life, which is sugar-coated as sexually independent. Piku has occasional one-night stands with her business partner Syed Afroze (Jisshu Sengupta) which even defies her father's "Don't pooh, where you stew" policy. Her father in a bashing manner often introduces his daughter to her suitors as a "financially, emotionally and sexually active, non-virgin woman". Piku has a secret admirer Rana Chaudhary (Irrfan), a civil engineer turned self-made taxi service company owner and He ocassionaly does the bidding's of the Banerjee family; He is infatuated with Piku's amateurish and eccentric social behavior and also often acts as a mediator in the Banerjee Family's domestic drama's, and gets dejected if he offers any rational solutions. Piku picks up the pieces of Rana's romantic notions and reciprocates in subtly silent manner, and ends up as a lady's casual pull on a man's heartstrings. The senility finally hits Bhaskor hardly, this affects Piku and people surrounding the family. Deteriorating Bhaskor decides he needs to take a trip to Kolkata to visit his ancestral home by road and the family is willing to do anything to ensure to fall back to their childish-dysfunctional ways. Finally after motley events against everyone's wishes Bhaskor travels to Kolkota by cycle and dies peacefully after a "divine dump". Piku confides with Rana and is seen in engaging through badminton at Banerjee house.
