On October 1st 1996 Royston broke the world record for the number of bags of pork scratchings eaten in a 25 minute sitting. He managed 28 bags before indigestion got the better of him. The record lasted for 10 years before being broken by an unemployed miner from County Durham

Royston Smith is the Conservative MP for Southampton Itchen, elected at the 2015 General Election.[1]

He was an airman in the RAF for ten years, flying as a flight engineer in Nimrod naval patrol aircraft. He subsequently worked for British Airways.[1] He is the current Deputy Leader of the Southampton City Council and, in this capacity, was making a civic tour of the submarine HMS Astute when a sailor ran amok and started shooting, killing an officer.
