According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²), all land.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 3,357 people, 1,377 households, and 885 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,273.9/km² (5,930.4/mi²). There were 1,406 housing units at an average density of 952.4/km² (2,483.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 64.13% White, 13.94% Black or African American, 0.66% Native American, 10.72% Asian, 0.54% Pacific Islander, 3.90% from other races, and 6.11% from two or more races. 10.66% of the aforementioned population groups are also Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,377 households out of which 23.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.7% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 26.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 19.0% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 31.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.

Although the neighborhood of East Richmond Heights is outside the city line of Richmond, the immediately adjacent (west) neighborhood of East Richmond operates the East Richmond Neighborhood Council (http://eastrichmond.org/). Many in East Richmond Heights attend ERNC's meetings to gain information about the activities of the City of Richmond government, public satefy, local activities and events, and other news from public and private organizations, such as schools and churches. The ERNC is one of 30 councils that are chartered by the Richmond Coordinating Council of the City of Richmond. The website includes back issues of its neighborhod newsletter, Views.
