Alyssa Valdez is a Filipino volleyball player. She is a multi-awarded athlete and is considered to be one of the best collegiate volleyball players in the Philippines today. She is a full-time student of Ateneo de Manila University taking up AB Psychology and a member of the student council. She is a true student-athlete as she not only excels in sports but also in academics. She is currently a member of the Ateneo de Manila University's collegiate women's varsity volleyball team in both indoor and beach volleyball, and Philippines Women's Volleyball Team.

Alyssa Valdez became popular nationwide when she started to play for the Ateneo Lady Eagles. Valdez is one of the most followed volleybelles in social media, thus making her one of the sought after endorsers for sports products, gears, and drinks. She also covered on some of the famous sports and entertainment magazines in the country and appeared on television as guest in variety and talk shows or participant in game shows.

Career Beginnings

Alyssa Valdez was raised in San Juan, Batangas. She's the only girl in a brood of four siblings. She learned how to play volleyball by playing with her two older brothers when she was in elementary school at the age of 10.

Having developed her volleyball skills, she later played in the Southern Tagalog (Calabarzon) Athletic Association (STACAA), a regional sports meet for elementary and high school student athletes. She was discovered and recruited by the University of Santo Tomas (UST), where she played for their high school varsity volleyball team, the UST Tigress Cubs.

Alyssa's four-year stay in UST was very productive in the field of sports. She was selected to the National Capital Region (NCR) team for the Palarong Pambansa, a national sports competition for elementary and secondary students, in her first year in high school. She was UST’s top high school volleyball player who led the España-based team to several championships: three titles in UAAP (Seasons 70-72), and one in Shakey's Girls' Volleyball League (Season 5). She was a two-time MVP in UAAP (Season 71-72) and once in Shakey's Girls' Volleyball League (Season 5).

Valdez's student-athlete career became more productive on her college years. She raked multiple individual awards and helped the team bagged championship titles. She was UAAP's 3-time Best Scorer, 2-time Best Server, 2-time Season's MVP, and one-time Final's MVP. She's also a one-time Conference MVP, Final's MVP, and Best Server in Shakey's V-League. She became a member of Philippines Women's National Volleyball Team in 2013.

2010-2011 Though enrolled as a freshman student in Ateneo, she was not able to play for Ateneo in the school's mother league, UAAP, as she had to serve a one-year residency imposed by the University Athletic Association of the Philippines for transferring from a UAAP school to another. During this time, she competed in the International Beach Volleyball Tournament in China together with Lady Eagle teammate Bea Tan where they finished 7th.

The Shakey's V-League Season 7 2nd Conference marked Alyssa's first game appearance with the Lady Eagles in a tournament. The following Season (1st Conference of Shakey's V-League Season 8), Ateneo bagged its first Shakey's V- League title after beating the Adamson Lady Falcons.

2011-2012 In the first ever Open Conference of Shakey's V-League, Valdez was one of the top scorers of the team. The Lady Eagles was the only collegiate team to enter the Final 4 and finished in 3rd place.

UAAP Debut After serving the mandatory one-year residency rule, thus making her ineligible for the UAAP Rookie of the Year award, Valdez made it to the Lady Eagles roster in the UAAP Season 74 and joined the veteran players Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio, Gretchen Ho, A Nacachi, and Jem Ferrer or known collectively as the Fab 5. She contributed to the team's offense and helped bring the team to the Finals. In beach volleyball, together with Fille Cainglet and Bea Tan, they finished 2nd place.

In Shakey's V-League 9th Season 1st Conference, she was named the Finals MVP after they successfully defended their title against the UST Tigresses.

2012-2013 In UAAP Season 75, Valdez set a record for the most number of points scored in a game. She scored 35 points (31 spikes, 3 blocks and 1 service ace) in the second round elimination game against Adamson University in January 20, 2013. The standing record before her record breaking performance was 33 points set by an Adamson player, Angela Benting, on February 14, 2009. Valdez was named the Best Scorer of UAAP Season 75. Her scoring prowess helped the Ateneo team land in the Finals of the UAAP season 75 volleyball tournament.

In Shakey's V-League 10th Season 1st Conference, Valdez bagged the Best Server award which served as a consolation as her team unsuccessfully defended the title against the NU Lady Bulldogs.

Together with Alyja and Aleona Santiago, they led the 3rd placer National team in the 2014 FIVB Asian Southeastern Zone Women's Volleyball Qualifier held in Quang Tri, Vietnam.

2013-2014 Alyssa Valdez was appointed team captain of the Ateneo women's varsity volleyball team. She was named UAAP Season 76 Women's Volleyball's Best Scorer, Best Server and Season's MVP. She also bagged the Finals MVP award after beating the defending champions DLSU Women's Volleyball Team. Valdez was the first female volleyball athlete to bagged 4 awards in one UAAP season.

Valdez bagged the Best Scorer Award in Shakey's V-League 11th Season Open Conference. She scored a total of 342 points for the entire season breaking the 314-point record of Jaroensri Bualee.

2014-2015 Valdez led the Ateneo women's varsity volleyball team, which represented the Philippines in the 2014 ASEAN University Games held in Palembang, Indonesia and took home the Bronze.

In UAAP Season 77, Valdez tallied 312 big points outscoring her previous season's finish. She was awarded the Season's MVP, Best Server, and Best Scorer. They finished the season with 16-0 sweep.

Valdez joined the PLDT Home Ultera Ultra Fast Hitters club team under Coach Roger Gorayeb for Shakey's V-League 12th Season Open Conference.

Valdez's stock continues to grow as she was appointed team captain of the 2015 Asian U23 Women's Volleyball Championship. She was appointed to bear the Philippine flag and will lead the 578-strong Team Philippines on the traditional parade of nations in Singapore for the Southeast Asian Games set on June 5 to 16.

Valdez played for the joint Smart and Maynilad team in Shakey's V-League 10th Season Open Conference (2013) where they finished 2nd. She got a special award (Fittest Player of the Conference) from one of the conference's benefactors.

In the semifinal round of Shakey's V-League 12th Season Open Conference, Valdez matched her UAAP record, scoring 35 big points (33 attacks and 2 aces) against Philippine Army. She was awarded the 1st Best Outside Hitter and Conference MVP.
