User:MelanieN submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
:Ritchie333 is one of the best Wikipedians I know. He specializes in saving articles. He will find an article nominated for deletion at AfD or CSD, recognize that the subject is worthwhile, and improve it until it is a perfectly acceptable Wikipedia article. His saved articles are often featured at DYK. He has even gotten a few to Good Article status; he is the living embodiment of :Wikipedia:The Heymann Standard. See User:Ritchie333/saves for a partial list of his rescues. He also does a lot of work at GA, both in promoting articles to GA status (38 at last count) and in reviewing the GA nominations of others. He has created more than 60 new articles. He participates in, and occasionally closes, discussions at ANI, where his contributions always demonstrate courtesy and common sense. He certainly deserves to be Editor of the Week.

Hello and thank you

"I've had enough of Noel Gallagher slagging me off. Let's see him play the drum parts to "Los Endos" - that'll shut him up."

Hi Ritchie333, it's great to hear from you! I do like to work on Yes/Genesis articles but my writing is never up to GA quality. First off, thank you for working on The Yes Album. I was amazed someone took it from the mess that it was to GA in such little time! You have a good, unique way of developing articles which I like. Nice development on Trick, and please feel free to work on Wind & Wuthering as like I said, my writing is not as succinct. Duke pains me as I had such a big edit going, with lots of references from the 2007 reissue interviews, only to have the whole thing swiped by power outage. This has happened to me far too many times. I guess little by little edits are the way forward for me now! I do have Bowler and Dray as well as the Genesis 2007 book, but I use articles from The Genesis Archive. LowSelfEstidle (talk) 14:45, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

@LowSelfEstidle: Thanks! I got Bowler and Dray book brand new (then lost it and bought another one second hand on eBay recently), around the time The Way We Walk, Volume Two: The Longs came out. I knew the 80s Genesis well from just hearing them all over the radio (you could be living as a rock hermit and you'd still hear Phil Collins), but it was only really the "Old Medley" on this that sought me to dig out all the old albums. I spent at least the next decade and a bit moaning that Genesis lost it after Hackett left, but I then remembered that the "Duke" suite is great, and the 80s albums are actually good, and just suffer from being over-familiar. So nowadays I like bits of all Genesis, broadly construed, and it means I can tackle something like Selling England by the Pound to GA without overloading it with an excessive fan's POV that some of these sorts of articles suffer from. Anyway, I'll chip away at Duke a bit more; I've got stuck trying to source the last few bits of Trick of the Tail.
GAs are not too difficult once you've done a bit of work on here, as long as you understand the core policies of WP:V, WP:NPOV and WP:NOR, the entire article complies to it (which usually, but not necessarily, implies everything gets sourced to an inline cite) and if you can write a succinct reply on a talk page that doesn't get misunderstood, then your prose skills are probably up to the task. Even then, prose is easy to fix in a GA review, structure, POV and sourcing issues aren't! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:28, 12 April 2015 (UTC)#
@Ritchie333: The 1992 "Old Medley" has actually grown on me since the first time I heard it. They could never make the "Stagnation" excerpt long enough in my opinion. That moment from When in Rome 2007 with everyone's hands up in the air cheering along is too magical of a moment. Anyway, I appreciate the tips and useful information; your work is a great template to follow for one's improvement. Keep up the excellent work, sir. Let me know if you need any opinions, second thought, or have a need to give out ale recommendations. I am a fan of Doom Bar myself! LowSelfEstidle (talk) 14:58, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
@LowSelfEstidle: I seem to recall sitting down and trying to learn the piano intro to "Firth of Fifth" in summer 1993 ... and nearly 22 years later, I still can't do it. I can do the middle section reprise of it on one hand. Maybe I will crack it before I die - who knows? Anyway, back to articles here, I have done some clean-up on A Trick of the Tail, including another copyedit of most of the prose and removing most of the remaining unsourced material (which was mainly minor technical things). I think the release dates are the only things left uncited, then it'll be good to go for a GA review, although I would like to write a bit more about the cover art, that no sources seem to ever talk about. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:01, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
@Ritchie333: Keep going at "Firth of Fifth", I say. You might just get it. Or even better, the introduction to "Watcher of the Skies"! My best suggestion would be to look at the 2007 reissue interviews on DVD as they tend to talk about the covers on them (certainly for the early Gabriel albums, I'm just unsure if they talk about them for the later ones). The interviews uploaded on YouTube have been cut to fit the 10-15-minute time limits from back in the day, so most are incomplete. LowSelfEstidle (talk) 17:33, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
"Yes, 40 years ago, dressing up as a flower seemed like a good idea, but I bet you did silly things too. Don't remind others of past misdeeds."
I used to be able to do the Watcher intro all the way through (and I used to have a VST plugin on a laptop called "Watcher Mix"), and I have occasionally played it at soundchecks. Most people haven't a clue what it is. I've also occasionally run off the main riff to Van der Graaf Generator's "Killer" - actually armed with a set of bass pedals, VDGG's stuff seems easier to play than Genesis', probably because there are less solos. Anyway, Trick is now at GAN. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:28, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of A Trick of the Tail

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article A Trick of the Tail you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Sparklism -- Sparklism (talk) 08:20, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Draft:Wisdom Jobs ‎

Hi Ritchie333,

I have just started to editing wikipedia and create two articles Punya Prasun Bajpai and Ashish Kasyap. I was also trying to create page of Draft:Lip Ink International. My intention was only to get to know that why this page is not approving when i have added lots of references. I was doing that just because to learn but not to earn. I have also submitted a page for Wisdom Jobs and added best reliable resources however it was rejected.I asked to the writer that why this page has been rejected when i am have added best notable references but there was no reply from the editor. See the page Naukri.com. This page is referred by poor notable websites however this article is approved. I am only curious to know about how WikiPedia works and nothing else. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhyud (talkcontribs) 15:18, 13 April 2015‎

Corporation articles are a hard sell on Wikipedia. The fundamental problem is that too many people are trying to use the site to promote a business, and paid editors are particularly good at trying to hide company articles under a wide range of sources, hoping nobody will spot that they are promotional. To counteract that, we have very strict guidelines for organisations, which means the company must be written about numerous times in major newspapers, magazines or books - no exceptions. In the case of Naukri.com, the article is in a poor shape, but a news search easily shows it is one of the most important websites in India and could be improved. Whereas we reject articles that do not appear to be possible to be improved.
I'm sorry if it feels difficult because paid editors and spammers have ruined things for honest editors who just want to contribute, and it is a shame. However, if the anonymous whistle-blowing feedback I posted on Draft:Lip Ink International is typical of the company, I think they would be better off without a Wikipedia article - it's not always a good thing to have one. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:36, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Ritchie333 for clearing my doubts. I have noted down your suggestions and will take care in future. I would request you to please delete Lip Ink International as this article doesn't fulfill the criteria of Wikipedia. I would also request you to please take a look of this article Draft:Wisdom Jobs. This company is really doing good in it's industry and also they have good media coverage.[1][2][3]I have added good reliable third party resources to justify my article. I appreciate Wikipedia editors who do hard work to maintain the quality. I can assure you that my all articles will be written with honesty and dignity and will maintain the quality guidelines of Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhyud (talkcontribs)
It looks like Timtrent has reviewed that submission and given you a comprehensive opinion of the sources there. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:27, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
Ritch333, my all third party resources are being considered as press releases. Can you please share any reference article that can be considered in Wikipedia for my new article. Help me!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhyud (talkcontribs) 13:21, 14 April 2015‎
The best thing you can do is on the red "Submission declined box" is click on one of the "news", "newspapers" or "books" links and see if there's anything there. There's quite a bit about Wisdom Jobs, such as this news source, which I think is reliable and independent, but it's not what I would consider significant coverage. You need something like that, but talking more about the company in an impartial manner. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:36, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

@Katherine.Holt: Not a problem - a professor with a named appointment in a notable academic institution usually meets our guidelines for academics. Normally I'd tell you to read the plain and simple conflict of interest guide but in this instance you have been around for a while and declared up-front that you are a subordinate of Prof. Schilling, so I'll assume you're familiar with the guidelines in this area anyway. Boat Race barnstar o'clock

The Running Man Barnstar
Hey Ritchie, just a quick barnstar to say thanks for the many, many reviews of Boat Race articles you've conducted over the past year. As of this morning, I completed my (initial) goal of ensuing that every Boat Race had, not only its own article, but one that was either of GA or FA status: we now have 158 GAs and 3 FAs that we can all be proud of! It doesn't stop here, for me at least, I'm going to keep up with improving the quality of the GAs and look for more FA opportunities. Plus, there's the small matter of 70 Women's Boat Race articles to get up and running! But thanks again, I couldn't have done it without your help. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:36, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
"Nice legs, shame about the boat race"
"If I am elected, I will make bloody sure that the country will be run from Llwynypia, see if I don't!"
"every Boat Race"? ....and the rest. lol Martinevans123 (talk) 15:40, 16 April 2015 (UTC) (p.s. ... and Leanne the most gorgeous of the prospective leaders, I think you'll have to agree?)
Oh, she is smoking hot, especially when she's having a right go at El Fuhrer on telly! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:55, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
Tonypandy Burning, boyo. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:00, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
"Order! Order!" Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:01, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
"Mine's a pint of bitter (and twisted), thanks." Martinevans123 (talk) 16:09, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
In all seriousness, my next mini-task is to see what I can do with the 70 women's boat race articles, but I doubt I'll even be enthusiastic enough to get to the Welsh variation.... Although I have to admit, I've never seen Ms Wood looking so good. There must a song in that somewhere.... The Rambling Man (talk) 16:05, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
TRM, I'd give up trying to be serious when Martin's stalking my talk page, you'll just end up banging your head against a wall ... I have seen the last few Boat Race articles on WP:GAN recently, and thought I would have a go at one, but I keep getting distracted by people reviewing mine. Anyway if I see one of the women's race articles there, I'll grab it if the timing's right. I've only got Pawn Hearts left in the GA queue at the moment, so I need to get writing - album articles are easy enough to get to GA with the right book sources, but it's always good to have something a little more challenging. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:22, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
@The Rambling Man: You're more than welcome; I took a break in February from GA reviewing generally as I wasn't writing enough of my own, but I'm glad that I made a significant dent in an area of Wikipedia we can really be proud of. And of course, we couldn't have got there without you doing the substantial amount of research, sourcing, and writing in the first place. Right now, I seem to have acquired the de facto title of President of the Heymann Club, who improves articles sat at AfD just to irritate people. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:46, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

As long as the topic stays on article improvement, all are welcome on this talk page. (Apart from block notice templates. And excessive easter egg links from Martinevans123. Actually, the second of those isn't too bad on second thoughts.) Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:56, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Pink Floyd band members, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page John Joyce (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Invitation

Hi this is dfrr. the reason I sent this out is because this has to do with building an encyclopedia. this project has a lot of R&B articles that need improvement.i do not know if you are into soul or not but I am not trying to be funny I am trying to be serious here and improve these articles. I made a edit to James Brown and other articles. so that is why I sent this message. no worries you're okay. thank you and have a great dayDfrr (talk) 20:04, 17 April 2015 (UTC) (Talk to me:-))

@Dfrr: - No this message is okay - I was more concerned about the plethora of barnstars on Dr. Blofeld's page, amongst other things. Stick to articles, and you'll be alright. I seem to recall James Brown was in a bit of a state; it could do with cleaning up and taking to GA but I'd need the right book sources and some serious background knowledge beyond what I currently have. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:10, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Rich (if I may call you that) I am sorry about that anyways 2 things. 1.I was trying to award Dr. Blofeld for his good work but I will stop doing that if Mr. Feld does not like it. 2. are you going to be a member of Wikiproject R&B And soul music? because I am already a member and I am on the list here is a link to the list

anyways thank you and have a great dayDfrr (talk) 20:16, 17 April 2015 (UTC) (Talk to me:-))

about the message you left on my talk page

hi this is the one and only Dfrr who is known for making the article Lori Beth Allen for Happy Days. I replyed to your message that you left on my talk page and I need you to view it just that. although you can leave a message if you like:-)Dfrr (talk) 22:53, 17 April 2015 (UTC) (Talk to me:-)

Concerns

I share the same concerns regarding Dfrr. He has made over 390 user talk edits and has already been bought up for his conduct. I don't know if I should bring the matter to ANI but it does seem like he has spamned several users... TheGRVOfLightning (talk) 06:49, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

This is far from the first time I've seen this and the usual long-term outcome is a WP:COMPETENCE and WP:NOTHERE related block on ANI, but that takes a long time to get to and there is plenty of time to stop it. Hopefully, the heads up will be taken accordingly and that'll be the end of it - we'll see. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 08:28, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

hi guys you don't have to worry about me from now on I will only be contacting people about improving articles.Dfrr (talk) 20:13, 18 April 2015 (UTC)(Talk to me:-)).

Allen3 talk 12:10, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

I appreciate your help and the suggested links! Phyllis Rosser (talk) 15:50, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

@Phyllis Rosser: You're welcome; this is a frustrating case as I've been through several newspaper and book sources and all they say is "abc exhibited xyz including the Ceres Gallery" - without a good source documenting the history, an article can't be written. I assume you are this Phyllis Rosser, former president of the Ceres Gallery from 2000 - 2004, and that presents us with a problem, as you have a conflict of interest. I'm sure you want to commemorate the gallery's history and influence on feminist culture, nothing wrong with that, but you have to use what third party sources have written, otherwise you'll be in trouble. I'd strongly advise you to read the plain and simple conflict of interest guide as soon as possible. Ironically enough, I can see more coverage in reliable sources about yourself than the gallery! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:01, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks so much! I hear what you are saying and I will continue to search for third party sources. Fingers crossed! I appreciate your extra time. Phyllis Rosser (talk) 16:06, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Snake is a wonderful drive in the summer when you've got all the time in the world, but I can well believe that goes out of the window the minute commuting comes into it. This stuff didn't make the article, but back in the 70s, Joy Division and Human League used to trade gigs off each other, presumably so they didn't have to cart a full PA over the Pennines, and Hooky remembers travelling in a Transit (?) up Snake Pass towards Sheffield wondering if the van was actually going to survive to the top.
I also know a couple of freight drivers and I'm pretty sure the recommended route for any farms in Lincolnshire to the whole Greater Manchester area is via Sheffield and Woodhead, going via the M62 over Scammonden is just too out of the way and fuel heavy to be cost effective. So the whole road is bunged up with HGVs all the way through Longendale and Mottram. Coming the other direction along the M67 tells you everything you need to know about British transport policy - great fast road for a few miles, then it just gives up and dissolves into total crap. And as for the trains, great, let's reopen the Woodhead Tunnel, oh wait, it's full of electrical cables. Bugger. PS: Bit of a blast from the past for you Eric for seeing Sale, Greater Manchester as today's featured article. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:53, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
I see that is your 40th GA! Congratulations! --MelanieN (talk) 22:02, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
A personal favourite and a high point for the Yamaha keyboard, I feel. "Brian Matthew, you were right." Martinevans123 (talk) 22:11, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
Had a feeling it might - I'd never heard of him before I researched the article! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:53, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
What! You are joking?! "I Can't Go Back to Savoury Now" is "a heart-rending bittersweet tale of modern manners", by 'eck. There is something of the Jake Thackray about him, I think. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:17, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Need help with a rescue

(This is what I actually came here to say - whereupon I found you had just been awarded EotW.) I know this note is likely to get lost - in between the congratulations for Editor of the Week and the party that is likely to erupt in a mop-awarding thread within the next few hours. But the article Lamont Johnson (jazz bassist) really needs your help. I rescued it from G3 (I don't know what that nominator was thinking, the subject is obviously not a hoax) and added a little context. But making it into a proper article will require a musician's touch which I don't have. Can you find a little time for rescue work? --MelanieN (talk) 17:27, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

The trouble with this one is that he has often been credited as "E LaMont Johnson" on records, and there are quite a few other notable Lamont Johnsons, which means you have to be very careful to look for context when citing sources. With that in mind, it took a while to get his AllMusic page, but I've got it and it looks like he's been on enough major label album releases to just squeak into WP:MUSBIO. I'll carry on looking, and I highly suspect he will have done news and magazine interviews in the 1970s and 80s that just aren't online. And G3 ... I mean, I can believe people doing an A7, but honestly! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:41, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I dropped the nominator a note on their talk page - although I was too polite to say "WTF were you thinking?" Thanks for getting right on it. I was wondering if we may need a disambiguation page since there are actually THREE Lamont Johnson pages here now:
What do you think? --MelanieN (talk) 17:53, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Hmmm. Certainly policy suggests you don't need a disambiguation page, as only Lamont Johnson and Lamont Johnson (bassist) require actual disambiguation, and the former looks more notable than the latter. I think you just need liberal amounts of for and distinguish tags, myself. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:10, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Done. --MelanieN (talk) 18:26, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week for efforts to save articles nominated for deletion. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:MelanieN submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

Ritchie333 is one of the best Wikipedians I know. He specializes in saving articles. He will find an article nominated for deletion at AfD or CSD, recognize that the subject is worthwhile, and improve it until it is a perfectly acceptable Wikipedia article. His saved articles are often featured at DYK. He has even gotten a few to Good Article status; he is the living embodiment of Wikipedia:The Heymann Standard.
