The PlayStation 3 launch is remembered as a failure of a high demand product that caused some pretty unique ... things to occur. It was all over the news at the time, and it is even referred to in secondary articles as the reason Apple hired off-duty police at their stores to avoid having the same outcome. But this article is devoid of any reference to the hundreds of burglaries, muggings and at least one unquestionable shooting to have occurred by crazy people wanting to get their hands on a PS3 nownownow. I understand that corporations like to clean up their articles on here, but this is the only reason and singular notable element that I and many others find the whole PS3 launch notable in the first place. This has to be included. [[IPhone_(1st_generation)]] is the reason I came here, to read more about it as I thought there were a spate of shootings not just one. I am disappointed that we're pandering to either corporate PR spin doctors or fanboyisms and not addressing it. Modification I made
I made several modification:
- Price for Indonesia. I removed dollar sign, because we, Indonesians does not use dollar sign, instead "Rp.". The International sign for Indonesian Rupiah is IDR.
- Added Brazil's prices.
- Added Accessories pricing. Please feel free to add other accessories, and its price. Currently, I have done the column for Indonesia and Brazil only, and added Indonesian's price for game. I will try to get the price for othe accessories

- I think it looks a lot better thanks.Bobthebobthetimothy 20:37, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- I also think it's looks a lot better also. PS3 wins 12:01, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think it is unnecessary to add pricing data on regions with no official Playstation 3 launch (like Indonesia and Brazil) since it would be somewhat inaccurate.
- On countries with no official PS3 launch the price can be very unstable and changes quickly over time. For example, the price history in Jakarta alone (price history varies in other regions of indonesia), on November 12, 2006 (just 1 day after the japanese launch), several PS3 was imported to Indonesia and priced at IDR 12,000,000 ~ IDR 14,000,000 much more expensive than it's japanese launch price (JPY 59,980 equals ~ IDR 4,650,000) after about 2 weeks, the price went down to IDR 7,000,000 ~ IDR 8,000,000 (for a 60GB console, 1 extra controller, 3 game software), then on January 2007 the price went down again to IDR 6,200,000 ~ IDR 6,500,000 for the same package (1 60GB console, 1 extra controller, 3 game software), though, right now the price seems to have become stable. I know this because i live in Jakarta and have kept track of PS3's price here. --125.160.202.26 08:25, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- It was released officially in Indonesia sometime in 2006/2007. Sony store (official sony's owned store)in Jakarta sell it higher than the price of PS3 in Mangga Dua or other shops. I discovered this when I was on holiday in Indonesia last March/April 2007--w_tanoto 14:43, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- The PS3 (like the PS2 and the PS1) isn't officially imported and supported by Sony in the Brazilian market, being in fact, a gray import of sorts. So the prices vary dramatically. The price listed in the table is from Submarino.com, the largest online retailer in Brazil, and I've seen lower prices elsewhere, around the R$ 2000,00 mark for the 20 GB model and around R$ 2500,00 for the 60 GB model. However, since the consoles sold in Brazil are the same ones for the US market, the 20 GB version is expected to disappear soon from the shelves.201.8.115.71 06:23, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
HDMI Cable
US Price
I found the US cost for the HDMI cable which is $50.00 I hope you can put it in the table. PS3 wins 12:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
New Colume for HDMI cable price
Also i notice i found the HDMI cable price but no colume for it so to put the price in there will need to be a new colume. You don't need to do it now. If i found any more prices I will add them to the table or put it here. PS3 wins 14:49, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Finnish price and release date
Why is the release of PS3 in Finland marked to be in June, instead of March like other Eurozone? Also the higher price makes me wonder why is Finland any different from other Eurozone Tomppa 23:43, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Move suggestion
Please consider moving this article to PlayStation 3 launch, for consistence sake (Xbox 360 launch and Wii launch). -- ReyBrujo 17:37, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

"Local" vs US$
I think the exchange rates need to be checked on this page. Unless the exchange rate has drastically changed since these edits, something's not matching up. For example, I'm finding that €599 is nearly $775. And £425 is just over $834. That's a far cry from the $660-680 mentioned in this article.
Brazil charges more than the price on eBay ever reached in the US!! Socby19 17:32, 8 March 2007 (UTC)SocBy19
- The PS3 was never (and probably never will be) launched officially by Sony in Brazil. In fact, it isn't even supported by them. Also, the units sold in the Brazilian market are the same as the US market units, being imported generally from American distributors and not directly from Sony. This fact, added with the typical console shortage during launch and the insane amount of taxes on electronics and import duties in Brazil make the console extremely expensive. 201.8.115.71 06:32, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
This is because we Europeans give prices including VAT, not like the US, which dont.
Hence, 600€ are about $775 but deduct 19% VAT (Germany) and you get about $660.
This article only lists NBA 2K7 as a launch title, but according to List of PlayStation 3 games, NBA 07 was also a lauch title in the US. Which article is correct here? --Conti|✉ 20:01, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Italian release
In the article it is said that "Italian retailer Datel started selling the PS3 earlier", but I don't think there's a retailer named that way. Retailers who decided to start selling it earlier seem to be: Darty, Saturn, Mediaworld, EB-games and Gamestop. A link (in italian) about this is here:http://www.lastampa.it/_web/cmstp/tmplrubriche/giochi/grubrica.asp?ID_blog=35&ID_articolo=152&ID_sezione=247&sezione= —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 158.102.162.5 (talk) 15:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC).
My edit.
According to Financial Times, PS3 sold 600.000 units just in first two days [1] becoming the fastest selling console in United Kingdom [2] with 165.000 units in first two days.
- The FI article states that PS3 sold in two days more than Xbox 360 in a month. Is this comparisson really necessary? --Ciao 90 19:05, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Referencing
IIRC, the launch info on the main Playstation 3 page is well-referenced. If there is way, the references for that section can be imported to this article as well... Ranma9617 01:52, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Changes on Price table
I am going to make a big change on price table, including the country that has not been mentioned in this page, and I'll try to move some from the main PlayStation 3 page. So, I'll backup the table first. I am also thinking to remove the accessories category, as a few people fill that in, while I will add "colour system" on the table. I'll make it more like Xbox 360 launch, while retaining some elements from Wii launch. The Wii launch page is too sophisticated, and difficult to copy, especially with almost all the price of accessories unknown or variable. I'll put the backup here.

Launch prices, or current prices?
As noted in the above section, this is the launch article. So, in my opinion, prices should reflect what the console launched at in region, and not the current price. Other opinions? -- MisterHand 14:15, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

40 GB variant discontinued?
These days, I hardly ever see a 40 GB PS3 being sold anywhere. I think the 40 GB variant has been phased into the 80 GB variant so it might be a good idea to update the table with a "discontinued" tag. (Psychoneko (talk) 08:16, 15 May 2009 (UTC))

Why only the first 4 SKU's on this page?
I'm confused why we don't have the release/launch dates of the later hardware revisions. There is some data on the Timeline of PlayStation 3 SKUs page and on the PlayStation 3 page. I would think it would be useful to include here unless it is being excluded for a specific reason. BcRIPster (talk) 19:46, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
