Southminster railway station serves the small town of Southminster in Essex, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Abellio Greater Anglia. It is the eastern terminus of the Crouch Valley Line.
History
The station was opened by the Great Eastern Railway on 1 July 1889.
The branch was electrified in 1986.
Rolling stock since electrification
Rolling stock used since electrification has been a mixture of 302 and 305 slam door stock, and 315s and 321s with sliding doors.
Nowadays, the most common stock used are the Southend-based class 321 EMUs, built by BREL York, and first introduced in 1988.
Services
As of May 2011[update] the typical off-peak service is one train every 40 minutes to Wickford.[1]
During peak times, train services will run all the way to and from Shenfield and London Liverpool Street. Peak services are increased to one train per hour.
Freight
A nuclear flask handling facility operated south of the station during the operation and decommissioning of Bradwell nuclear power station.[2]
