Iraqi Traditional Hashimi Dress
The traditional women dress of Iraqi Arabs is called Hashimi [1]. These dresses are widely popular in most Iraqi cities and other Arabian countries such as in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain,Qatar, UAE and Ahwaz also share similar cultural clothes due to the historical and cultural similarities Ahwaz shares with the rest of the Arab world. In addition, some non-Arab ethnic groups in Iraq have also adapted these traditional dresses into their cultures. [2]
These traditional dress are particular famous during Henna, Wedding events, and Ramadan gatherings.
Origin of the Name
The name of Hashimi dress is associated with the women of the Arabian tribe of Bani Hashim. There are more than 40 different design patterns for the Hashimi dress across the Arab world. The Iraqi city of Basra is famous for it's elaborate, colorful and elegant designs of Hashimi dresses.
The dress is typical accompanied with jewelry such as gold earrings, necklaces, and headpiece.[3]
