Kapil Sharma is an Indian stand-up comedian, actor, TV host, producer and singer. Popularly known as the "Comedy King" of India.He had made his place in the Forbes India Celebrity list for the first time in 2013 being ranked 93rd on the list and has moved up to 33rd in 2014.[1][2] He has also been awarded the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2013, in the Entertainment category.[3] He is ranked no.3 at the most admired Indian personality list by The Economic Times in 2015.[4] Currently he is hosting the popular Indian comedy show "Comedy Nights with Kapil".[5] Sharma has been nominated for "Swatch Bharat Abhiyan" by PM Narendra Modi which he has accepted.[6]

Early life

Sharma was born on 2 April 1981[7] in Amritsar, Punjab, India. His father, was a head constable in the police department and his mother is a housewife.[8] His father died of cancer in 2004.[9] He studied at Hindu college in Amritsar.[10]

Career

Sharma had been working in the comedy show Hasde Hasande Raho on MH One, until he got his first break in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, one of the nine reality television shows he has won.[10] He became the winner of the show in 2007 for which he won 10 lakhs as prize money.[5]

Then he participated in Sony Entertainment Television’s Comedy Circus.[11] He became the winner of all six seasons of "Comedy Circus" he participated in.[12] He has hosted dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6[13] and also hosted comedy show Chhote Miyan.[14][15] Sharma also participated in the show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad.

In 2013, Sharma launched his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil, under his banner K9 Production.[16] At CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards, Sharma was felicitated with Entertainer of the Year award for 2013 by Amol Palekar.[17] In 2014 Lok Sabha Election, he was declared the Brand Ambassador by Delhi election commission.[18]

Sharma hosted the 60th Filmfare awards 2015 along with Karan Johar as co-host.[19] He was a presenter for the fourth season of Celebrity Cricket League 2014.[20] He was featured as guest on the opening episode of Indian television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 8 on 17 August.[21] He was also featured as celebrity guest on The Anupam Kher Show where he shared his emotional side for the first time.[22]

Sharma was to make his film debut with Yashraj film's Bank Chor, but the comedian opted out of it.[23] He will be making his film acting debut as lead in the movie Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu which is a romantic-comedy directed by Abbas Mustan opposite 4 heroines, Elli Avram, Manjari Phadnis, Simran Kaur Mundi and debutant Sai Lokur.[24]
