• McLaren-TAG Porsche took the Constructor's Championship with 3 races left.
• With only 3 races left in the season, the result meant only Elio de Angelis had a mathematical chance of upsetting Niki Lauda or Alain Prost for the championship, though he would need to win all 3 remaining races and hope that Lauda only scored 2 more points, and Prost no more than 3.5 points for this to happen
