Mandy Takhar is a British Indian model and actress, who predominantly appears in Punjabi films.

Career

Mandy Takhar was born and raised in the city of Wolverhampton in the UK.[1] She traces her roots to Maliana, a small town near Phagwara in Punjab.[2] She grew up dreaming of becoming a Bollywood actress.[3] Mandy had moved to London from her family home when she was 17, to study drama at the Kingston University.[2] She then left the UK in 2006 to work as a model and actor in the Indian film industry.[4]

She moved to Mumbai and did a few TV commercials and two south Indian films. Then, she landed the role opposite Punjabi singer Babbu Mann in the 2010 film, Ekam - Son of Soil.[2] Two years after that, she was offered Gippy Grewal's film, Mirza - The Untold Story. Mandy was also seen in a relatively unknown Bollywood film called Bumboo,[3] which did not fare well.[5] She played a Canada-based businesswoman opposite Sangram Singh in the film, Saadi Wakhri Hai Shaan.[2]

In 2013, she starred in Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 a comedy alongside Amrinder Gill and Honey Singh. She played the role of a Punjabi girl named Simmy in the film.[3] In April 2013, she got the Most Prominent and Popular Face of 2012-13 Award at the 6th Punjabi Film and Music Festival.[6] She was also seen in another Bollywood film Akaash Vani.[7] she also acted in Ishq Garaari in which she has portrayed a character called Miss Sweety.[8] She made her debut in Tamil cinema with Venkat Prabhu's Biriyani starring Karthi.[9] She said that she played a "super sexy role in the film", Maya, for which she had put on weight, and that "it was pretty tough".[10] Her role in the film "Sardaar Ji" has been highly appreciated, especially for the songs.[citation needed]
