Craig Paul Joubert (born 8 November 1977) is a South African professional rugby union referee. He has officiated at international level since 2003 with the 2011 Rugby World Cup Final being his most high-profile match.
Biography
Joubert was born in 1977 and attended Maritzburg College and then the University of Natal to study business finance.[1] He then went into corporate banking, a profession in which he spent five years before taking up refereeing on a full-time basis.[1]
Refereeing
Joubert's father Des, a referee at provincial level, encouraged Craig to take up refereeing as a teenager. Joubert is a member of the Maritzburg sub-society of the Natal Rugby Referees society.[1] He officiated his first IRB Test Match, Wales vs United States in Connecticut in June 2005.[1] In 2010, he was in charge of the Super 14 final between the Bulls and the Stormers. In the 2011 Rugby World Cup Joubert took charge of several games including the semi-final between Australia and New Zealand and the final between New Zealand and France.[2] He also refereed the Super Rugby final in 2014 which saw the Waratahs clinch the game with a last-minute penalty against the Crusaders.
