Antwerp International School (AIS) is a private coeducational preschool, prekindergarten, kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school located in Antwerp, Belgium. The school was founded in 1967 and grew from an enrollment of 65 students to approximately 450 students. The first senior class of AIS graduated in 1971, and the school celebrated its 40th anniversary in December 2007.

Accreditation

AIS is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC); and has been authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme since 1976. The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is used in the elementary school, and the IGCSE is offered in grades 9 and 10.

AIS was the first international school in the world to gain accreditation by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), and in 2012, was the first school to receive 5 consecutive re-accreditations by ECIS/CIS (The ECIS accreditation service was transferred the Council of International Schools (CIS) in July 2003[1]).

Facilities

At the end of the 1990-91 school year, AIS completed four building phases. The building programme included a kitchen and cafeteria, a library, two computer labs, eleven secondary school classrooms and twenty elementary school classrooms. Three science laboratories were also completely renovated. Since September 1991, students at AIS have enjoyed specialized facilities for art, music and theatre. A Middle School building and High School addition were completed in the spring of 2001, and a new gymnasium and health centre in March 2003.
