Opening scene problem

In the plot subsection, Lady Chat "bids her husband, Clifford, goodbye as he goes off to war." The war was WWI, but "Clifford" is driving himself in a 4-door sedan car of the 1930s. Elsewhere the film accurately shows cars of the WWI era. There is no clear basis for any supposition about who the driver is or where he is going. Thoughts?
