}}I will be editing the stub on [[Nick (DNA)|Nick (DNA).]]

'''What the stub already contains:'''
The article currently gives a basic overview of what a nick is in DNA. It also describes the role that nicks play in DNA mismatch repair.

I intend to add to the information describing what a nick is (molecular structure as well as function), and create a section for mismatch repair to add to the pre-existing information about the nick’s role. I’d like to add another section about how and when DNA ligase interacts with nicks.

'''Example sentences that will be in the article:'''

Single-stranded and double stranded nicks are repaired by DNA ligase, an enzyme with similar structural elements to DNA polymerase.<ref>{{cite journal|last1=Cherepanov|first1=Alexei V.|last2=de Vries|first2=Simon|title=Dynamic mechanism of nick recognition by DNA ligase|journal=European Journal of Biochemistry|date=11 December 2002|volume=269|issue=24|pages=5993–5999|url=http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1046/j.1432-1033.2002.03309.x/epdf}}</ref> During DNA replication, DNA ligase creates a complex with the nicked DNA between Okazaki fragments. The complex lets DNA ligase momentarily unwind part of the double-helix to expose the nick for ligation.<ref>{{cite journal|last1=Pascal|first1=John M.|last2=O'Brien|first2=Patrick J.|last3=Tomkinson|first3=Alan E.|last4=Ellenberger|first4=Tom|title=Human DNA ligase I completely encircles and partially unwinds nicked DNA|journal=Nature|date=25 November 2004|volume=432|pages=473-478|url=http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v432/n7016/full/nature03082.html}}</ref>
