LoliRock is a French animated television series produced by Marathon Media and Zodiak Kids. It first aired on France 3 on September 23, 2014, and is also broadcast on Disney Channel France. Created by Jean Louis-Vandestoc, and written by Madellaine Paxson.[1] The show combines elements of fantasy, inspired by the magical girl genre.
Plot
Iris is a normal girl, living in Sunny Bay. However, when she sings, strange events happen. Meanwhile, Talia and Auriana are searching for the lost princess of Ephedia, and decide to do an audition for all the girls in town. Encouraged by her best friend, Iris ends up auditioning, but her power destroys the room, and she is attacked by two strangers. Talia and Auriana come to help her, and explain to her that she is a princess with magical powers, that must save her kingdom from the clutches of Gramorr. The only way to save it is to master her powers, and find the gems of the Royal Crown of Ephedia, scattered across Earth.[2]
Characters
Main characters
- Iris: A girl living in Sunny Bay, she is blonde with blue eyes. She has a great kindness, and a sense of justice that will help her in the future. She has a crush on her best friend, Nathaniel. She loves gardening and singing, but when she sings, something strange happens. After a reunion with Talia and Auriana, sha discovers that she is the princess of Ephedia, a magical kingdom, and her duty is to find all the sapphires of the royal crown. She would save Ephedia by defeating Gramorr once and for all. She is in love with Nathaniel. Her transformation item is a pendant. Once transformed, her hair and clothes turn pink, and her symbol is the heart. She forms a band with Talia and Auriana: LoliRock, where Iris is the lead vocalist.
- Talia: She is the second princess of Xeris. She is 16 years old, and has brown hair and honey-colored eyes. She is a serious and very intelligent girl. Gifted with magic, she learned more complex spells for Iris. She was imprisoned by Gramorr before she went in search of the princess of Ephedia, with the help of Auriana. Her transformation item is a bracelet, and once transformed, her hair turns light blue, and her clothes change into blue. Her symbol is the diamond. In the band, Talia sings and plays the keytar.
- Auriana: She is the princess of Volta. She is 15 years old, has red hair, and green eyes. She is bubbly and cheerful. She had the idea of naming the band LoliRock. Her transformation item is a ring, and once transformed, her hair and clothes turn orange, and her symbol is the crescent moon. In the band, Auriana sings and plays the tambourine.
- Amaru: The little pet. He has the ability to transform into a winged horse to transport the Princesses. He also has the ability to create a special arena to allow the princesses to fight evil away from civilians.[3]
Antagonists
- Gramorr: After betraying the king and queen, Gramorr has taken control of Ephedia, but to gain total control of the Kingdom, he must have the Royal Crown, which is protected by a spell. Now, with the crown incomplete, Gramor sends Mephisto and Praxina, to find the sapphires to complete it. Princess Iris is the only one who can stop his evil plan.
- Mephisto: The twin brother of Praxina. He enjoys destroying things. He is a bit cheesy and not very good, he often bothers her sister Praxina and will not stop arguing. He is sent to Earth by Gramorr to prevent the Princesses from thwarting his master's plans, and at any price. His theme color is green.
- Praxina: The twin sister of Mephisto. She loves to belittle people, especially her enemies and her brother, reminding her that she was born before. She has a very affirmed personality, and she often bosses her brother around. She is sent to Earth by Gramorr to prevent the Princesses from obtaining the sapphires. Her theme color is red.
Secondary characters
- Nathaniel: Iris' best friend, whom she nicknames Nat. He knows Iris at heart, and wants to encourage her with kindness and a little humor.
- Kyle: He is new to Sunny Bay, he is Talia's love interest. He is a persevering and kind boy.
- Matt: A dinosaur lover, he encountered Auriana near the museum, and fell for her charm. He is not very clever and falls often, but he is very nice.
- Ellen: She is a cheerful lady who likes to take care of her garden. She is the person who took care of Iris since childhood.
- Iris' parents: the King and Queen of Ephedia. They ruled the kingdom until Gramorr took control. Betrayed by the latter, they have been dethroned. The Queen has protected her daughter by sending her to Earth. Nobody knows what happened to them.
- Izira: Talia's older sister. She possesses a great power, and is deemed to be a powerful, responsible and intelligent princess. Talia lost track of her since the attack of Gramorr on Xeris. It is later revealed that she is imprisoned on Ephedia.
