Watchmen is a film adaptation of a twelve-issue Hugo Award-winning comic book of the same name. The adaptation will be directed by Zack Snyder and is currently in pre-production.
Project history
The Watchmen project has changed hands through different studios such as 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, and Paramount Pictures. Directors such as Terry Gilliam, Darren Aronofsky, and Paul Greengrass were attached to the film at various points. Watchmen has also had a share of adapted screenplays, including those by Sam Hamm and David Hayter. Hayter is known for co-writing the X-Men and X2: X-Men United screenplays. Hayter's screenplay was particularly regarded by the Watchmen writer Alan Moore, who had not been pleased with previous scripts.
Background
On June 23, 2006, Warner Bros. confirmed that Zack Snyder would direct Watchmen.[1] Snyder recently completed filming another Warner Bros. film, 300, which had impressed the studio. A new script will be written for the adaptation by Alex Tse.
