RuneScape

As a player of the game itself, I can assure you "RS" is most definitely the most used way of referring to the game...

However, I have a more important question for you. There's no mention of one of the major updates to the game. I don't know if you play the game or not, but it's an item called the bond. One item? That's not major! Well, the item was introduced to create a means of purchasing in game money with real world currency. It's a complete 180 from their original stances, so I think it's ground breaking enough to add to the article. Do you agree? If so, would I put it under the game updates section or the rules and cheating section (as it is strongly related to third party goldfarming).

I'm fine with the revert. I just added it because it was removed from RS with the reason "no indication in the article of being known by the initials". I saw you were the reverter and wanted to ask for your input on the edit I have mostly completed since you're one of the major contributors to the page. moluɐɯ 15:34, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

I reverted mainly because it's only players that use RS, while most people outside it (including Jagex themselves) use RuneScape. Since all our sources spell out the full name there's no written evidence that RS is a really common abbreviation. Compare this to the Jagex article - their full name is Jagex Game Studios but everyone calls them Jagex so that can be noted as an abbreviation.

As for bonds, I was going to encourage you to be bold anyway so I can't criticise you. I'll look more closely at it later (and then probably end up deleting most of it. I hate being the only major contributor.) 1ForTheMoney (talk) 16:09, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

That makes sense, thanks for the reply. Hopefully what I added is all information that an encyclopedia would want. I'm an editor over at the Wikia Hosted RuneScape wiki (under this same name) more than anywhere else, so I'm not exactly used to the style of writing expected for a good Wikipedia prose, but hopefully my edit can be kept and worked with. Actually, I just tried to make it shorter without losing relevant information - the general rule of thumb is to stick to what's mentioned in the sources and not ramble (on RSW you can get away with long explanations and minor details; on WP that would be frowned upon.) You assume correctly. The concept of premier membership can't be unique to RuneScape plus it's only available for about one month. Besides, we already covered using bonds to buy membership and this is just a variation on that. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 16:52, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

(Completely unrelated to WP) Do you happen to know offhand how much of the old Knowledge Base was archived/where it could be found? Someone at RSW wants archives of the old Area guides it had. RuneScape

So if I want to be listed as a major contributor to the article (I have relatively few edits, but an overqualified wealth of knowledge on the subject), would I just boldly add myself to that list? Or should I do as I have done and politely ask another major contributor if I can be listed amongst them? I have the same feeling - the polls are mentioned very briefly under the Combat section, but since they now cover more of the game they'll probably have to be moved. Oh. Didn't you see I added that there? I was barely above borderline in adding that bit, actually. I figured it was valid enough considering the rest of the paragraph was about player involvement in the combat changes. To further clarify, the polls were actually originally (and still are) mostly pertaining to live game content, focusing only on the combat improvements a little. Me neither. Also, about that edit you undid: Was the wording fine? Or should it remain simple? I felt the exact calculation might have been a bit too much, but I did it anyways because the formula is simple. I know you reverted it because forums shouldn't be cited. I just never felt the exact calculation needed to be explained, even though it's fairly simple. regarding thumbnail

thank you for the feedback. but i would just like to bring to your kind notice that the thumbnail picture was already there when i started the edit. I also have a question you. (Moved to the bottom to keep everything in order.) First, I did nothing to the image except remove the thumb attribute, because thumbnails won't work properly in infoboxes. If you want to add an image with a caption, you use something like this:

{{Infobox person

|image_size = 220 <!-- Default size for thumbnails/frameless images. Always include a fixed size,
even if you don't think you need it. -->
|caption    = Your caption

}}

Now for your second question. What you describe is called an edit conflict and they are very annoying. If you need time to make an edit, place {{in use}} at the top of the article before you start so other editors know the page is likely to be busy.

If an edit conflict does happen, you'll get a page with two boxes - the top box contains the current page, and the bottom box has the page you were working on. Copy anything you want to save from the bottom box to the top one, then click "Save page" to finish. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 16:48, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

RuneScape gameguide

We can't use the wiki to cite, but I found a small number of non-wiki game guide articles on the official site. It's really not much, but we can probably update some sources/nit pick these for important info. I'm not sure how much of the latter we could do though... Tank Carder

Hi, I signed in to Wikipedia to do some work on a friends page that someone else created because that is up for deletion. While I was here I uploaded the pictures on my son's page. Thank you for fixing his profile picture. I couldn't figure out how to do it. I also uploaded the other pictures and tried to place them in the sections they went to similar to Andy Dalton's page. It happens because the infobox is longer than the actual article and you've aligned all the images on the right, so the infobox pushes them down. The best way round it is to put the images in a gallery, like this.

I should also note that all the images could be deleted since they don't have enough copyright information. You need to fix that yourself. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 09:38, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Mark Ogilvie on Jagex Article

I actually Asked Mark Ogilvie in-game in RuneScape what his job is, and he said Design Director and Company Representative. The Joe Allen edit I made today

Hi, I don't know if this is the place to do this, but I wanted to let you know that I know I messed up with the edit I made today. I was looking back through my account and noticed I'd edited his page before, and when I went back to see my edit, I didn't realise the entire page was from the day I edited it. I only updated his Liverpool appearances, and saved the page not noticing that it would have deleted all the edits since. I then tried to undo my edit, but for some reason it wouldn't let me! Anyway, thanks for sorting that out. Yes, I got the impression you'd taken it back to a much older version of the article, which struck me as weird considering your last edit was nearly 2 years ago. As for why you couldn't undo your edit, it's because the article is under pending changes protection - edits (including reversions) have to be approved by a reviewer before they actually appear in the article. It's used when you want to prevent vandalism, but still allow anonymous users to edit. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 21:04, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Hudood Ordinances tag

re: the "needs attention from an expert in Pakistan. Please add a reason or a talk parameter to this template to explain the issue with the article," tag added (actually changed from "expert" to "an expert in Pakistan") five years ago here.

I can't be called an "expert on Pakistan" but I have done some reading and research and have attempted to improve the article here.

I didn't originate the tag, I just modified it. At the time, {{expert}} was deprecated in favour of {{expert-subject}} because the latter template allowed users to request help from specific WikiProjects, and I took it upon myself to clean out the remaining uses of {{expert}} according to my own judgement.
