Cosmic Girls (Korean: 우주소녀; Wu Ju So Nyeo), also known as WJSN, is a twelve-member Chinese-South Korean girl group formed by Starship Entertainment and YueHua Entertainment. They are set to make their official debut in early 2016.
History
Pre-debut and Formation
Cosmic Girls's first member to be revealed to the public was SeolA, who, in 2012, made a cameo in Boyfriend's Janus music video as the lead female cast.
The second member who was showcased to the public was Exy who was revealed to the public as a contestant on a South Korean female rap competition called "Unpretty Rapstar 2" where she gained attention for her talent and potential.[1]
The third member revealed to the public was Eunseo who made a cameo in Monsta X's Rush music video prior to debut.[2]
On December 1, 2015, Starship Entertainment started to tease about the new girl group through several social networking services (SNS), namely Twitter and Instagram, with images of a planet, heart sign and an image of a combined orbit and heart.
On December 2, Starship Entertainment continued teasing by posting another teaser photo of a silhouette gazing at an orbited heart sign. This teaser photo became Cosmic Girls's official logo.
On December 3, a photo of the new girl group's members' silhouettes were posted on Starship's official Twitter along with a caption "Debut! Coming Soon!" Starship Entertainment then started to tease about the new girl group by releasing unit teasers every week, with each letter of WJSN representing a unit consisting of three members.[3] On December 10, the first unit called "Wonder Unit" was revealed, consisting of members Cheng Xiao, Bona and Dayoung.[4] The second unit, called the "Joy Unit" was revealed the following week on December 17 with members Xuan Yi, Eunseo and Yeoreum.[5] The third unit, the "Sweet Unit", was revealed on December 24 showcasing members SeolA, EXY and Soobin.[6] The final unit, "Natural Unit" was released on December 31, revealing members Mei Qi, Luda and Dawon to the public for the first time.
On December 21, WJSN released a Christmas cover of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey through JuseTV's YouTube Channel.[7] The video was made up of eight out of twelve members (Cheng Xiao, Bona, Dayoung, Eunseo, SeolA, EXY, Mei Qi and Dawon) with four members (SeolA, Dayoung, Dawon, Mei Qi) taking part in the vocals.[8]
On January 2, 2016, five members, Dawon, Cheng Xiao, Xuan Yi, Exy, and Eunseo, made cameos in Uniq's New Year music video, again teasing for their debut.[9]
