The Noragami anime television series adaptation is based on a manga by Adachitoka. It is produced by Bones, directed by Kotaro Tamura with scripts by Deko Akao and character designs by Toshihiro Kawamoto.[1] The follows Yato: a minor and poor deity who does not have his own shrine. In order to build a shrine, he writes his cell phone number on the walls of downtown to offer his help to people in exchange for 5 yen. One day, Yato is rescued by Hiyori, a daughter of a respectable family, from a traffic accident. This causes her to become a "hanyo," a person who can easily lose her soul. She starts chasing after Yato, and they begin to work together. Yato also finds a boy named Yukine who becomes a tool of a god.

Prior to the series' television premiere, its first episode was screened at 2013's Anime Festival Asia on November 10, 2013.[2] The anime began airing in Japan on January 5, 2014, on Tokyo MX and later on MBS, BS11 and TVA. Funimation has licensed the anime for streaming in North America.[1] Madman Entertainment has licensed the anime for distribution in Australia and New Zealand.[3]

Its final, twelfth episode aired on Tokyo MX on March 23, 2014. Besides the television series, two additional episodes were released on DVDs bundled with the limited edition of the 10th and 11th volumes of the manga, published on February 17 and July 17, 2014.[1] The opening theme song is "Goya no Machiawase" (午夜の待ち合わせ, Overnight Appointment) with composition and lyrics by Shuntarō and arrangement and performed by Hello Sleepwalkers. The ending theme song is "Heart Realize" (ハートリアライズ, Hāto Riaraizu) with composition, arrangement and lyrics by Supercell and performed by Tia. The anime's second season, Noragami Aragoto, began airing on October 2, 2015. For this season, the opening theme song is "Kyōran Hey Kids!!" (狂乱Hey Kids!!) by The Oral Cigarettes, and the ending theme song is "Nirvana" (ニルバナ, Nirubana) by Tia.
